Joe Jacques finished the last two innings, giving up one run. Ji-Hwan Bae had a big day, with a double and his eighth home run. Cal Mitchell had three hits, including a double. Carmen Mlodzinski failed to survive the first inning, giving up five runs as Altoona (41-41) lost to Richmond, 6-4. Mlodzinski gave up only two hits, but he hit two and walked one, and an error by Andres Alvarez led to two of the runs being unearned. The Curve had a lot of chances — 17 at-bats with runners in scoring position, getting five hits. Jared Triolo, and Connor Scott each had two hits. Liover Peguero reached four times on two hits and two walks, and also stole his 19th base. Scott, Aaron Shackelford and Brendt Citta each had doubles. Blake Sabol had a rough day, going 0-for-5 with the golden sombrero. J.C. Flowers did a good job of giving the Curve a chance to come back, working four and a third hitless innings. In his last two games, he’s gone eight innings with one hit and no runs.

Francisco Acuna, Jacob Gonzalez and Jackson Glenn each had two hits. Acuna had two doubles, and the other two each had one. Endy Rodriguez and Abrahan Gutierrez each had a double. Dariel Lopez got cooled off, going 0-for-5.

Bubba Chandler had a good full-season debut as Bradenton (40-41) beat Jupiter, 4-1. As DH, Chandler had a single and double, and scored twice. Valentin Linarez survived six hits and three walks to go four and two-thirds innings with only one run allowed. Darvin Garcia, Mitchell Miller and Yunior Thibo kept the bad guys off the board for the last four and a third. Maikol Escotto started the scoring with his second Bradenton home run. Jasiah Dixon had a two-run triple, and Randy Romero had two hits and a sacrifice fly. Rodolfo Nolasco, who’d homered in four straight games, didn’t play because . . . Pirates.

The FCL Pirates (15-12) took a 5-1 lead, then survived a ninth-inning rally for a 5-4 win over the Twins. They also had to survive a very rough start at the plate, as the Twins’ starter, a lefty throwing a lot of changeups, fanned eight of their first nine hitters. Jesus Castillo was the only hitter not mystified early, as he finished 4-for-4 and also had a steal. Enmanuel Terrero had two hits and Jeral Toledo drove in a pair. Jauri Custodio had a double. Enmanuel De Los Santos had a good start, fanning six over three and two-thirds scoreless frames. Roelmy Garcia threw a scoreless inning, but ran into trouble in his second inning, walking two and hitting one before departing with one out. One of those runners scored and Daniel Rivero stranded the other two. Antwone Kelly worked two scoreless and hitless innings, although he walked two and hit two. Eliecer Romero nearly lost it in the ninth, allowing three runs before getting the last out with the tying run on third. He’d only allowed one earned run in his previous eight outings. (The box score had an obvious error, listing one Twins’ hitter twice in the order and crediting him with going 1-for-7 with five strikeouts.)

The Black team (14-15) didn’t have the best day, losing to the Phillies White, 14-2. It was actually a game for a while, as starter Isaias Uribe threw four shutout innings before giving up three in the fifth, departing with two outs. Things went downhill after that, especially in the top of the ninth, when two pitchers got torched for eight runs. One positive came from Hader Blanco, who worked a scoreless inning and two-thirds. The offense consisted of two singles, a double and seven walks. Wesley Zapata had the double, his 12th. Robert De Paula and Miguel Sosa had the singles, and Sosa also walked twice.

The Gold team (20-9) blew a two-run lead in the bottom of the eighth and lost to the NYY Bombers, 6-5. Pitterson Rosa had a rough start, getting just four outs while allowing two hits, three walks and three runs. Patricio Ress did better, stranding two inherited runners and working two and two-thirds scoreless innings. Fares Sanchez added two scoreless frames, but Dioris Valdez gave up the three eighth-inning runs to take the loss. Thanks to ten walks, the Pirates had a ton of chances, but they went 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position. Juan Machado reached base five times on three walks, a hit batsman and a single, which boosted his OBP to .480. He also stole four bases, but somehow scored only once. Eddy Rodriguez hit his second home run of the season. Ruben Vizcaya reached three times on a single, a walk and a hit batsman. Tony Blanco, Jr., and Axiel Plaz appeared only as pinch hitters, registering a strikeout and a walk, respectively.
