Prospect Watch: Tough Nights for Burrows and Solometo; Shalin Polanco Returns with a Huge Game

We got a full schedule today, with the short-season teams all playing early, and the full-season teams all playing at night. The only starter announced so far is Mike Burrows for Indianapolis, making his fourth start with Indianapolis. I’ll fill in the rest of the starters as they become available.

Game Recap:

Mike Burrows was throwing a lot of strikes on Thursday, but he was getting hit hard too. In four innings, he allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits, with no walks and three strikeouts. He threw 52 of 78 pitches for strikes. His Triple-A time has not got off to a good start, with a 7.31 ERA in 16 innings over four starts. The bullpen of Dillon Peters, Cam Vieaux, Travis MacGregor and Hunter Stratton combined for five shutout innings, but Indianapolis could only muster three runs in the 6-3 loss. Rodolfo Castro had three hits in this game, including his ninth double, which was the team’s only extra-base hit. Jared Oliva stole his tenth base. Cal Mitchell picked up his seventh steal.

Game Recap:

Kyle Nicolas went 3.2 innings on Thursday night, with one run on three hits, three walks and three strikeouts. He threw 54 pitches, with 30 going for strikes. He now has a 4.14 ERA in 50 innings, with 63 strikeouts. Enmanuel Mejia followed with 1.1 scoreless. Nick Dombkowski gave up one run in 2.1 innings. Tahnaj Thomas retired the final five batters in order, two on strikeouts. Thomas had a 2.70 ERA in June, and he has added 3.1 scoreless so far this month. The Curve scored two runs in the sixth on back-to-back fielder’s choices, though the first also included an error that led to the run. The third run scored on an error, giving them a 3-2 win. Matt Fraizer had the only RBI. He also stole his tenth base. Jared Triolo had three hits and he stole his 16th base. Altoona went 1-for-17 with runners in scoring position. Brendt Citta reached base four times on a single, two walks and a hit-by-pitch.

Game Recap:

Errors cost Greensboro a chance to make a game out of it on Thursday night. Starter Adrian Florencio allowed three runs over two innings, but all three runs were unearned. Domingo Gonzalez was out next and he allowed four runs, but just one was earned. Logan Hofmann threw two scoreless, then Santiago Florez gave up four runs over the final two innings for the 11-3 loss. Greensboro got their first run on a Dariel Lopez single. Lopez had two hits in the game, including his 11th double. They next scored on a homer from Mike Jarvis, his second since joining the team. He also committed three errors in this game. This final run scored on an Ernny Ordonez double, his sixth of the season. Endy Rodriguez collected his 17th double.

Game Recap:

Anthony Solometo suffered a minor side injury during his last outing on June 16th. This was his first game back and he had a rough go, with one silver lining besides the fact that he was back in action. He allowed four runs on six hits in 2.1 innings, doing that with no walks and four strikeouts. He now has a 4.11 ERA in 15.1 innings, with 17 strikeouts. Sergio Umana followed with one run over 3.2 innings, which raised him to a 1.14 ERA. Cristian Charle allowed one run in two innings, raising him to a 2.01 ERA. Wilkin Ramos took the ninth with an 8-6 lead and immediately loaded the bases on just five pitches, with a single and two hit batters, then was replaced by Carlos Campos. On seven pitches, he got a strikeout and a double play to end the game.

Bradenton scored their first run on a Grant Koch single. Rodolfo Nolasco homered in the third for their second run, his seventh homer. Wyatt Hendrie hit an RBI single in the fifth. Randy Romero followed with an RBI ground out, then Jase Bowen brought in two runs with his 13th double. Hendrie and Koch each drove in runs in the ninth. Bradenton had 15 hits and they went 6-for-16 with runners in scoring position. Besides the homer, Nolasco also hit his 11th double. Tsung-Che Cheng had two walks and two runs scored.

Game Recap:

This was a wild game, which was delayed early on by rain. Starter Cristopher Cruz allowed two runs on three hits and three walks in two innings. Eliecer Romero made his FCL debut, up from the DSL. He tossed two shutout innings. Joaquin Tejada gave up four runs in three innings of work. Andy Maldonado retired just one batter in the eighth before allowing four runs, three of them earned. Daniel Rivero gave up one run over the final 1.2 innings. Shalin Polanco had a big day in the 11-10 loss. This was his first game back after missing some brief time due to an injury that occurred while sliding into a base. He had a two-run double and a three-run homer, his third double and second homer. Bubba Chandler walked three times for the second game in a row. Enmanuel Terrero reached base four times on three walks and a single, but he wasn’t part (run or RBI) of the ten runs. Solomon Maguire had two singles, a walk, an RBI and three runs scored. Omar Alfonzo drove in a pair of runs. There were a total of 23 walks in the game.

Minor League Season Preview: 2022 DSL Pirates

Game Recap:

Starter Jonathan Salazar tossed three no-hit/scoreless innings on Thursday, but the Pirates took a 6-0 lead into the fourth and watched the Yankees reel off the next eight runs.  Yoerys Hernandez allowed three runs (two earned) in three innings, then Wilbur Martinez gave up five earned runs in the next three innings for the 8-6 loss. The Pirates got an RBI single in the first from Isaac Paulino, followed by a grand slam from Miguel Sosa, who was playing in left field, where he picked up an outfield assist to go along with his first pro homer. Catcher Richard Ramirez hit his first homer, giving the Pirates the 6-0 lead. The Pirates had two hit batters and five walks, including two free passes in the ninth that put the tying run on with one out.

Game Recap:

The Pirates won 7-1 in seven innings. Starter Gilberto Alcala, making his third start, threw three no-hit innings. He has allowed two runs in nine innings this year.  Alberto Saba allowed one run in two innings and Fares Sanchez tossed two shutout frames to finish out the game. The Pirates scored in the first on an Eddy Rodriguez single. An error led to a run in the fourth, then a bases loaded walk to Ruben Vizcaya brought in the third run. The fourth and fifth runs scored an inning later on bases loaded walks to Pedro Figuereo and Jhonson Pena. A wild pitch brought in another run, then a sacrifice fly from Vizcaya scored the final run. Eddy Rodriguez had two hits, a walk and his fourth stolen base. Yordany De Los Santos has a .235 average and a .643 OPS after two hits and a run scored.
