P2Daily: Previewing This Week’s Pirates Minor League Opponents

Published:

And then there were two.

The MiLB season is dwindling down, with both Bradenton and Greensboro’s seasons coming to an end. We have one more week of Double-A, unless something magical happens, and two more weeks of Triple-A.

In Triple-A, the Indianapolis Indians haven’t been officially eliminated yet, but stand very little chance of catching Nashville. This week the Indians will take on the team just ahead of them in the Toledo Mud Hens. The Detroit Tigers affiliate is short on Top 30 prospects and even more so with recent promotions. There is only two representatives on the Tigers Top 30 per Pipeline.

The Altoona Curve will get to see a couple high profiled young arms this week. The Reading Fightin Phils rotation currently has both of the Phillies consensus Top 100 prep pitchers in Andrew Painter and Mick Abel. The Curve almost got to see a third Top 100 pitcher (if you’re going by Baseball America), but Griff McGarry was recently promoted to Triple-A. In total the Phillies’ affiliate has four of the Phillies Top 30 prospects. It’ll be a good week to see how the firepower of the Curve’s offense holds up against a couple premier arms.
