Prospect Watch: Priester Leads Altoona to Victory; Nolasco Stays Hot

It’s Sunday, so we have a lighter schedule and it’s all afternoon games. The three short-season teams are always off on Sunday. So far today’s pitchers are Quinn Priester for Altoona and TBD is going for the other three teams, which means I’ll add in the others when they become available. Greensboro was postponed due to weather

Game Recap:

Zach Matson got the start on Sunday and started the game with two shutout innings. Noe Toribio followed with an impressive performance, tossing four scoreless frames on one hit, with no walks and two strikeouts. Cam Alldred came on in the seventh and threw two shutout frames. Cam Vieaux tossed a scoreless ninth in a 2-0 game that took an hour and 53 minutes to play. Carter Bins had the only RBI of the game with his fifth homer. The other run scored on a passed ball. Each team had three hits in the game. Cal Mitchell and Travis Swaggerty each had a single.

Game Recap:

Quinn Priester made his sixth start of the season, and the fourth for Altoona. He had his best outing of the season, going five shutout innings for the first time, throwing shutout ball on four hits, with no walks and six strikeouts. He now has a 2.81 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 16 innings for Altoona. Nick Dombkowski allowed a run in his only inning of work. Tahnaj Thomas retired all six batters he faced and now has his ERA since June 1st under the 2.00 mark (two runs in 18.2 innings). Bear Bellomy retired the side in order in the ninth for the win. It was a strong day all around for the pitchers, allowing one run, but the offense was strong too, putting up an 11-spot in the run column. Blake Sabol drove in four runs and he collected three hits, including his ninth homer. Andres Alvarez was strong too, hitting his tenth double and 12th homer. He drove in a pair, scored twice and added two walks. Jared Triolo and Matt Fraizer each went 1-for-3 with two walks and a stolen base. Fraizer hit his 14th double and stole his 13th base. Triolo hit his first triple, stole his 18th base, and drove in a pair of runs.

Game Recap:

Luis Peralta had a typical Luis Peralta outing, throwing a lot of pitches in limited time, with few hits and a ton of strikeouts. In fact, he didn’t allow any hits, but he also threw 56 pitches in 2.1 innings, allowing a run on two walks, a hit batter and five strikeouts. He now has a 6.67 ERA in 29.2 innings, with 56 strikeouts. Carlos Lomeli followed with three runs in 2.2 innings. Wilkin Ramos tossed a scoreless sixth, before giving way to Cristian Charle. He gave up a run over two innings, then Yoelvis Reyes allowed a run in the ninth, but held on for a 7-6 win. Rodolfo Nolasco had a nice game to end a big week, hitting his tenth homer, his 13th double and driving in three runs. He is up to a .756 OPS on the season. Juan Jerez added his fourth homer. Maikol Escotto had three hits and an RBI. Tsung-Che Cheng had a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Greg Allen went 1-for-3 with a walk in his third rehab game.
