Prospect Watch: Seven Games Scheduled, But Altoona Rained Out

Published:

Henry Davis started his rehab with the FCL Pirates and Brennan Malone started the game.  Aaron Shortridge started his rehab from Tommy John with Bradenton.  And the weather washed out a Mike Burrows start, which is totally uncalled for.

Starting Pitcher: Brennan Malone

  • Final Line: 3 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

Notable Performances:

  • Henry Davis 0-3, HBP
  • Enmanuel Terrero 1-5
  • Shalin Polanco 0-5
  • Jeral Toledo 3-5, 2 2B
  • Jesus Castillo 2-5
  • Owen Kellington 2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

Game Recap:

The FCL Pirates (2-0) scored seven in the top of the ninth to blow open a seesaw game with the Twins and secure a 12-6 win.  The game featured the appearances of various secretive individuals.  Brennan Malone made his season debut as the starter and threw three innings.  It wasn’t too bad, as he fanned four, but he gave up three doubles and three runs.  Two of the latter were unearned.  Henry Davis started his rehab, catching the first six innings.  He went hitless at the plate and, naturally, got hit with a pitch.  He left for a pinch runner, although that may have been the plan anyway, so hopefully there’s no injury.  Owen Kellington made his first pro appearance.  He worked one scoreless inning, but gave up three hits and two runs in his second inning.  Braylon Bishop made his season debut, entering late as the right fielder and getting a single in his only time up.

A lot of the offense came from infielders Jeral Toledo and Jesus Castillo.  Toledo had a single and two doubles, scored three runs and drove in two.  Castillo had two hits and three RBIs.  As an aside, the sometime-infield on this team is worth watching.  Meaning Toledo, Castillo and Javier Rivas, who didn’t start but entered late and hit a single.  They all started yesterday and all three look like legit shortstops, particularly Rivas and Toledo.  The bats will be the big question for them.  Esmerlyn Valdez didn’t get a hit but scored three times.  Ronny Sanchez had a double, the only extra base hit besides Toledo’s.  Yoelvis Reyes threw two scoreless innings to close out the game.  Enmanuel De Los Santos, who’s been able to pitch very little since signing back in 2018, had some control issues when he first got in.  He walked four, but got through two innings with only one run allowed.

RK: DSL PIRATES BLACK

Game Time: 11:00am

Box Score: LINK

Starting Pitcher: Isaias Uribe

  • Final Line: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

Notable Performances:

  • Wesley Zapata 2-4, 2B, BB
  • Kelvin Diaz 2-3, 2B, HBP
  • Robert De Paula 3-5, 2B, 2 HR (2), 4 RBI
  • Ewry Espinal 1-2, 2B, 3 BB
  • Rodolfo De La Cruz 3-4, 2B, HBP

Game Recap:

The DSL Black team (1-1) won a slugfest over the Rockies, 14-8 (in a seven-inning game).  Big days were had by many.  Robert De Paula (19 — I’m going to put some ages in here because they’re relevant) had a very big game, with a double, two dingerz, three runs and four RBIs.  Kelvin Diaz (19) had a single and double, a hit batsman, three runs and two RBIs.  Rodolfo De La Cruz (18) had a double and two singles, and drove in three.  Wesley Zapata (18) had a single, double and a walk, and Ewry Espinal (19) had a double and three walks.  Isaias Uribe started but got only four outs.  Yoerys Hernandez gave up one run but got the win.  Lewys Guzman had a rough time, allowing three runs while recording two outs.  Adolfo Oviedo (17) did the best of the pitchers, fanning four over two scoreless innings.  Reyson Santos got the last four outs.

RK: DSL PIRATES GOLD

Game Time: 11:00am

Box Score: LINK

Starting Pitcher: Pitterson Rosa

  • Final Line: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K

Notable Performances:

  • Yordany De Los Santos 1-4
  • John Zorilla 0-3, BB
  • Carlos Tirado 1-2, BB

Game Recap:

The Gold team (1-1) beat the Cubs Red, 4-3.  The good guys used up all their whiffs for the next month yesterday, so they had only four today.  That worked better, as they had six hits and six walks.  The hits were all singles and nobody had more than one.  Yordany De Los Santos (17), after a rough debut yesterday, got his first pro hit and managed to strike out only once.  He and Carlos Tirado (17) had the only two RBIs.  Pitterson Rosa (17) had a nice pro debut with two scoreless innings.  Keneth Quintanilla gave up two runs over three innings.  Rafael Mendez worked the final two, allowing one run.
