The system had the sort of day that’s very common now, failing over and over with runners on second and/or third. The four affiliates went a combined 3-for-37 with runners in scoring position.

Game Recap:
Carmen Mlodzinski continued to not resemble the guy the Pirates were supposedly getting as Altoona (22-24) lost to Bowie, 5-4. Mlodzinski got batted around for nine hits over four innings, and gave up five runs. The bullpen did its job. Bear Bellomy worked three scoreless innings, as he seems to be recovering from a terrible start to the season. Noe Toribio went one inning, lowering his ERA to 1.80. Tyler Samaniego made his AA debut with a clean inning, striking out one; he’s now thrown 18 innings on the season and allowed three hits. The Curve offense came entirely from the leadoff hitter, Jared Triolo, and the bottom of the order, specifically the 6, 8 and 9 hitters. Triolo had two hits and scored twice. Aaron Shackelford and Matt Fraizer each had a double and two singles, with Fraizer continuing the long slog from the mid-.100s, raising his average to .211. Brendt Citta had two hits. Altoona went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Nick Gonzales left for a pinch runner after reaching on a force play. He seemed perfectly fine after the play, but left one pitch later, limping like he might have a sprained ankle.

The Hoppers had eight hits, but went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Maikol Escotto had a triple, the only extra-base hit.
