Loss For Owens, Win for McSwain

Bradenton Marauders �6, �Charlotte Stone Crabs �4 (box)

Matt McSwain recorded his first win since returning to play, and Noah Krol earned his league-leading 20th save of the season, as the Marauders held on to beat the Stone Crabs.

After two quiet innings, the two teams traded runs in the 3rd and 4th innings. �Charlotte scored one run on two walks and a single off Marauder starter Melkin Laureano in the 3rd. �Bradenton countered with a run on in the bottom of the inning, on singles by the newest Marauder, C Jordan Newton, SS Greg Picart, and a ground out by 2B Jose De Los Santos. A fielding error by 3B Adam Davis, two�walks, and two stolen bases gave Charlotte another run in the top of the 4th, as Casey Erickson came in to relieve Laureano. �LF Quincy Latimore tied it up for the Marauders in the bottom of the frame with a solo home run.

The Marauders took the lead for the first time in the 6th. �DH Calvin Anderson walked, then stole second base. �Singles by CF Austin McClune and 1B Erik Huber brought in two runs, and the Marauders were ahead 4-2. �They added two insurance runs in the 7th. �De Los Santos singled, and scored on RF Robbie Grossman. Grossman scored on Davis’ RBI single.

Matt McSwain came on to pitch the 6th inning, and despite loading the bases on a single, a double, and a walk, he got out of the inning without allowing a run to score, courtesy of a ball tapped back to the mound. �McSwain gave up a run in the 7th on a double, a ground out, and a single. �Another double, a wild pitch, and an RBI ground out gave Charlotte another run in the top of the 8th, and Noah Krol came in to relieve McSwain. �Krol finished the 8th without letting another run score, then got three easy ground outs to retire the side in the 9th, earning his save.

West Virginia Power �7, �Hagerstown Suns �2 (box)

The Power scored early and late, as Phillip Irwin earned his 4th win of the season. �The Suns got onto the scoreboard first, with a run in the bottom of the 1st on a single, a stolen base, a fielding error by 3B Elevys Gonzalez, and a sacrifice fly off Irwin. �They added another run in the 3rd on a triple and an RBI ground out. �After that, Irwin scattered 3 hits over the next 4 innings, for a total of 5 hits and one walk in 7 innings of work. �He struck out 4 batters. � Mike Williams and Marc Baca each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for the Power.

The Power scored their first run in the 2nd inning, starting with walks to LF Jose Hernandez and C Pat Irvine. Elevys Gonzalez moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, and SS Benji Gonzalez brought in Hernandez with an RBI single lined into right field. �1B Aaron Baker added two more runs with a 2-run homer in the 3rd, following RF David Rubinstein’s single. �They made it 4-2 in the 4th, on a walk to Benji Gonzalez and an RBI double by 2B Jarek Cunningham.

CF Evan Chambers added some insurance runs with his 2-run homer in the 8th, after DH Kyle Morgan reached base on a fielding error at short. �The Power capped it off with another run in the 9th. �Pat Irvine singled, moved to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on Benji Gonzalez’s sacrifice fly.
