PawSox Early And Late Rallies Crush Tribe
Brad Lincoln made the start for the Indians, and was charged with his 7th loss.

Two big innings by the Pawtucket gave the Red Sox plenty of in-game fireworks to warm up the crowd for the post-game fireworks at Victory Field tonight. The PawSox scored 4 runs in the 2nd and 5 runs in the 8th, and their total of 12 runs came on just 10 hits.
Indians' starter Brad Lincoln mowed down the first five batters he faced, striking out three of them. But with two outs in the top of the 2nd, Lincoln suddenly got into trouble. DH Ryan Lavarnway ripped a double into the right-center field gap for a double. RF Nate Spears lined a single into center field, which CF Gorkys Hernandez fired back to the plate, as Lavarnway rounded third and headed for the plate. The throw was on-target and on-time, but C Eric Fryer couldn't keep hold of it as he went to make the tag. The ball dropped to the ground, and Lavarnway slid across the plate safely. Lincoln walked C Luis Expositon on four pitches, then 2B Brent Dlugach rocketed a double over RF Alex Presley's head and off the top of the right field wall. That brought in Spears, but Presley's strong throw in from right made Exposition hold up at third. With both runners in scoring position, CF Che-Hsuan Lin blooped a single into short center field, which dropped in between three Tribe fielders, brining in both Exposito and Dlugach, for a 4-0 lead.
Hernandez (photo) came through with a clutch double to help the Indians cut the PawSox lead in half in the bottom of the inning. With one out, 3B Josh Harrison, just back from Pittsburgh, took a 4-pitch walk from Pawtucket starter Kyle Weiland. Fryer grounded out, then 2B Josh Rodriguez also walked. Hernandez followed with a double off the top of the wall in the right-center field gap, and both Joshes raced around to score. The rally ended when Presley popped out to second, leaving Hernandez stranded, but the Tribe had made progress: 4-2.
Rodriguez Goes 3-For-3 In Debut; Owens Injured
Indianapolis Indians 10, Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 5
[ box ]
The newest Indian, Josh Rodriguez, went 3-for-3 with 4 RBI as the Indianapolis Indians overcame a 4-0 deficit to beat the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA tonight. The Indians posted 15 hits, while the Iron Pigs put up 14 hits; the Tribe also worked 8 walks. SS Brian Friday also had 3 hits for the Indians, as all but one of the starting lineup had at least one hit. The Tribe pitchers combined to strikeout 14 Iron Pigs' batters.
Once again, several former Indy Indians were on the field for Lehigh Valley: CF Rich Thompson (2005-06), LF Brandon Moss (2010), 1B Tagg Bozied (2009).
Starter Rudy Owens (photo), who has been having trouble getting through the first inning in many of his starts this season, had problems again tonight. Rich Thompson led off with a line drive off 1B Matt Hague's glove and into short right field for a single. As usual for the speedy Thompson, he stole second base. SS Pete Orr moved Thompson to third base with a single tapped back to the mound and deflected by Owens. RF John Mayberry brought in both Thompson and Orr with a 3-run homer. Owens got Brandon Moss to pop out, but Tagg Bozied blasted a no-doubt-about-it homer over the left field wall and well past the bullpen, for a 4-0 lead. Owens also gave up a double to 2B Josh Barfield after the homer, but a fly out and a strike out ended the inning.
The Tribe put runners on base in each of the first three innings, though none of them came around to score. Chase d'Arnaud, who was on third base again tonight, led off the top of the 1st for the Indians by reaching first when SS Orr made a high throw to first base, bouncing it off the screen in front of the Indians' bullpen. Friday singled, moving d'Arnaud to second, and a fly out by LF Alex Presley moved d'Arnaud to third. But RF John Bowker bounced into a 3-6-1 double play to end the inning, keeping d'Arnaud from scoring.
The Indians threatened again in the 2nd inning, when Hague lined a ball off the Iron Pigs' 3B Cody Overbeck's glove and into left field. With one out, new Indian 2B Josh Rodriguez grounded to short, where SS Orr made the scoop then fumbled the ball a bit, and Rodriguez was credited with his first Indians' hit. A grounder by CF Gorkys Hernandez forced out Rodriguez at second, but left runners on the corners with two outs. They got no further that time either, as Owens struck out to end the inning. Presley singled in the 3rd inning, but was left on base.
Indians Fall Despite Last-Minute Rally
We're on the road, so just brief recaps for a few days....
Rochester Red Wings 7, Indianapolis Indians 4
[ box ]
Indians' errors contributed to the Red Wings' big inning, and the Indians' own big inning was not big enough, as the Tribe lost to the Red Wings at Frontier Field in Rochester, NY.
The Wings jumped all over Tribe starter Rudy Owens in the bottom of the 1st, beginning with a ground-rule double on the first pitch Owens threw. A walk and a grounder force out gave Rochester runners on the corners. Both of those runners scored on 1B Aaron Bates' double down the right field line, for a 2-0 lead.
The Indians got one run back in the top of the 2nd. 1B John Bowker led off with a single, then stole second base. C Eric Fryer lined a single to short, and Bowker scored from second base.
Owens worked around a walk and a single in the bottom of the 2nd inning, then allowed just one hit over the next three innings. But things fell apart on him in the 6th. Bates led off with a double into right field. After a walk, 2B Toby Gardenhire dropped down a sacrifice bunt. Owens fielded the bunt but threw wildly to first, and all three runners were safe on the error. Owens walked the next batter, forcing in a run. He was relieved by Justin Thomas, but Thomas hit the first batter he faced with a pitch, forcing in another run. A single drove in two more runs. A double play finally gave the Tribe two outs, and Thomas was relieved by Jose Ascanio, who had just been assigned to the Indians. The first batter Ascanio faced grounded to third, but a throwing error by 3B Matt Hague allowed the batter to reach safely, while the runner from third base scored the 5th run of the inning. Red Wings 7, Indians 1.
Jared Hughes and Sean Gallagher each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to finish the game for the Tribe. Meanwhile, the Tribe batters were not having much success with the Red Wings' pitchers. CF Gorkys Hernandez singled in the 3rd, but was caught trying to steal second base. Bowker and Hague hit back-to-back singles in the 6th, but were left on base. Hernandez also doubled down the right field line in the 7th, but was stranded.
The Tribe rallied in the top of the 9th. Three pinch-hitters started the inning: Andy Marte led off with a double into center field, Wyatt Toregas struck out, then Miles Durham singled, bringing Marte across the plate. After a fly out, Hernandez hit his second double of the game, a ground-rule double, moving Durham to third base. SS Chase d'Arnaud also doubled, which drove in Durham and Hernandez to bring the score to 7-4. But Rochester ace reliever Anthony Slama was brought in from the bullpen, and Slama got DH Corey Wimberly to ground out, ending the game.
The Indians and Red Wings play a split double header on Saturday -- one game at 1:05 pm, and the second game at 7:05 pm.
Tribe Run Down Bison Again; Hughes’ AAA Debut
Indianapolis Indians 12, Buffalo Bison 6
[ box ]
The Indians and the Bison held a hit-fest at Coca-Cola Park in Buffalo, NY tonight, with the two teams combining for 30 hits (16 for the Indians and 14 for the Bison). The Tribe made the better use of their hits, though, and with three 3-run innings, the Tribe came out on top. SS Chase d'Arnaud went 4-for-5 with a homer and 5 RBI, and RF Miles Durham went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Rudy Owens (photo) earned his 6th win of the season, with 3 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks.
The Tribe got onto the scoreboard first, with 3 runs in the top of the 2nd innning. With one out, C Eric Fryer walked, then after a second out, Owens also walked. That brought up d'Arnaud, who rocketed a rising line drive over the right-center field wall to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.
Owens got through the first inning allowing only a double by 1B Valentino Pascucci. He gave the Bison back a run in the 2nd inning. A single by 3B Zach Lutz, a walk to LF Jason Botts, and a single by C Mike Nickeas loaded the bases. CF Jesus Feliciano brought in Lutz with a sacrifice fly, to cut the Indians' lead to 3-1. A sacrifice bunt by Buffalo starter Mark Cohoon was fielded by Owens, but the throw to first pulled 2B Brian Friday, who was covering, off the bag. Cohoon was credited with a sacrifice, and Owens was charged with an error. But with the bases loaded again, Owens got 2B Michael Fisher to fly out to left field. LF Alex Presley made the catch, then fired the ball in to the plate, where Fryer made the catch and held on to tag out Botts as he tried to tag up and score. The outfield assist saved at least one run, and possibly more, if the inning had continued. Durham also made an outfield assist in the 3rd inning. SS Luis Hernandez walked, then Pascucci lined into right field. Hernandez tried to go from first to third on the play, but Durham fired in to third base, where 3B Matt Hague mad the tag out.
Grand Slam Gives Chiefs The Restart; Homers For Fryer And Durham In 2nd Game
The Indians lost the suspended game, but won the regularly scheduled game.
Syracuse Chiefs 6, Indianapolis Indians 4 (completion of suspended game)

When we last left our heroes, trying to escape the pouring rain....
The Indians/Chiefs game was suspended after a 1 hour 44 minute wait last night. Tribe starter Sean Gallagher had given up a run in the top of the 1st, then the Indians took the lead in the 3rd on a single by CF Gorkys Hernandez, a triple by SS Chase d'Arnaud, and an error by the Syracuse 2B Tug Hulett. Syracuse tied the score in the top of the 6th on a solo homer by Hulett of reliever Chris Leroux. The top of the 7th began with Leroux still on the mound. He gave up a single and a sacrifice bunt, then was relieved by Justin Thomas. With the rain pouring down and the ball wet and slippery, Thomas hit both LF Gregor Blanco and CF Corey Brown with pitches to load the bases. Play was halted ...
The game restarted this afternoon at Victory Field, under overcast skies, with sprinkling rain that did not last long. Cesar Valdez (photo) took the mound for the Indians, with two outs and the bases loaded. 1B Chris Marrero stepped to the plate, and rocketed a grand slam over the left field wall, to give Syracuse a 6-2 lead.
The Tribe got two of the runs back in the bottom of the frame. Andrew Lambo, who had entered the game as a pinch-hitter for Gallagher and remained in the game in right field, opened the inning with a double into right field. After d'Arnaud struck out, 2B Brian Friday hit another double, just inside the first base bag and down the right field line, scoring Lambo. John Bowker, who had taken over left field at the restart, flied out. 3B Andy Marte blooped an RBI single into left field, bringing Friday around from second base to score. 1B Matt Hague also singled, and pinch-hitter Shelby Ford walked on four pitches to load the bases, but C Eric Fryer struck out on a checked swing, to end the rally.
Dan Meyer pitched the last two innings for the Indians. He struck out the first two batters in the 8th, then gve up a single to SS Matt Antonelli, then retired the next 4 Chiefs in order.
The Indians managed only one base runner over the last two innings -- Hernandez led off the bottom of the 8th with a double to the center field wall. The remaining 6 Tribe batters went down in order, and the Chiefs had the win.
Owens Can’t Overcome Shaky First Inning
Shelby Ford's lead-off home run was a bright spot for the Indians.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees 10, Indianapolis Indians 3
[box]
A shaky first inning from Tribe starter Rudy Owens gave the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees a lead they would never give up, as the Indians lost at Victory Field tonight. Owens suffered his 4th loss of the season, and with the Tribe bullpen getting thin, outfielder Corey Wimberly made his professional pitching debut. The Yankees posted 17 hits and scored in every other inning.
It was a tough night for Owens (photo). He lasted 5 innings and allowed 7 runs on 10 hits and 2 walks. The first inning began with three consecutive hits: a double by CF Austin Krum, a single by SS Ramiro Pena, and a 2-RBI triple by C Jesus Montero. The triple hit near the top of the right field wall, over the leaping RF Miles Durham, who then crashed into the wall and fell to the ground, as CF Alex Presley chased down the ricochet. Montero held at third when 1B Jorge Vazquez grounded to third for the first out of the inning, then Owens walked LF Justin Maxwell.
Maxwell was leaning off first, and Owens' throw to first picked him off. Maxwell took off for second base. 1B Matt Hague took a quick look over at Montero on third to make sure he was not thinking of going home on the steal attempt. But that extra second it took Hague to look to third was enough so that the throw to SS Brian Friday, covering second, was a second too late. Montero made an awkward slide into second base and Friday's tag was late, and Montero was called safe (photos below). As Friday looked at the umpire in protest, Montero, still off balance, rolled off the base -- if Friday had held the tag, Montero would have been out.
After a strikeout by 3B Brandon Laird, DH Jordan Parraz lined a 2-RBI single into center field, driving in both Montero and Maxwell. 2B Kevin Russo also walked, then RF Dan Brewer's RBI single plated Parraz. Brewer tried to advance to second base on the throw in from Durham in right, but a quick throw by 3B Andy Marte to Friday this time let Friday tag out Brewer. The Yankees had a 5-0 lead.
Ten Singles Take Indians To The Win
Indianapolis Indians 4, Pawtucket Red Sox 3

The Indianapolis Indians posted 10 hits, all singles, to beat a former Indian on the mound for the Red Sox, at McCoy Field in Pawtucket, Rhode Island tonight. Brandon Duckworth, who pitched for the Tribe in 2006 and earned an 8-3 record and a 2.42 ERA in 12 starts, could not get through the 5th inning tonight, as his former team handed him his 3rd loss of the season. Indians' starter Rudy Owens (photo) earned his 4th win, going 6 innings and allowing 3 runs on 5 hits.
Both starters pitched three scoreless innings to being their outings. Owens retired the side in order in the 1st inning, then gave up lone singles, to LF Daniel Nava in the 2nd, and CF Che-Hsuan Lin in the 3rd. Duckworth also retired the Indians in order in the 1st inning. 1B Matt Hague singled through the hole and into right field in the 2nd inning. In the top of the 3rd, with two outs, 2B Josh Harrison walked, and CF Gorkys Hernandez singled up the middle, moving Harrison to second base. The two runners both stole the next base, to give the Indians two runners in scoring position, but a ground out by LF Alex Presley ended the inning.
Both teams scored one run in the 4th inning, and for both, the run was driven in by a sacrifice fly. RF John Bowker led off the Tribe's top of the 4th with a walk. Hague smacked his second single of the game, and DH Jason Jaramillo was hit on the chest below his arm to load the bases with one out. C Dusty Brown, who had spent parts of the last 5 seasons playing for the PawSox, drove in the first Indians' run with a sacrifice fly. In the bottom of the frame, Owens walked DH Hector Luna to begin the inning. Luna advanced to second base on a ground out, then moved to third on a single by LF Daniel Nava, who slipped a grounder into center field, just past the diving reach of SS Brian Friday. 2B Tony Thomas brought in Luna with his sacrifice fly.
Tribe Win The Series In The Pink

For the third year in a row, the Indianapolis Indians found that the pink breast cancer awareness jerseys brought them luck. They beat the Buffalo Bison at Victory Field tonight, to win the 4-game series 3 games to 1. Rudy Owens pitched 7 innings, allowing only one run on 7 hits for his third win of the season. Former Pirate DJ Carrasco took the loss for the Bison.
This was Owens' (photo) first win in 5 weeks, and only the second game in which he pitched 7 innings (the other was on April 11th). He did not walk any batters. He had two strikeouts -- both on Carrasco, who also struck out Owens twice.
Owens took advantage of three double plays in the first four innings. His first two innings were twins. The southpaw gave up a single (to 3B Luis Figueroa in the 1st and to 1B Valentino Pascucci in the 2nd), then got an out (pop up and fly out), then erased the base runner and ended the inning with a double play. In the 1st, CF Kirk Nieuwenhuis bounced into a standard 4-6-3 (2B Josh Harrison to SS Chase d'Arnaud to 1B Matt Hague) double play. In the 2nd, LF Jesus Feliciano grounded to first, where Hague stepped on first, then threw to second base where d'Arnaud tagged out Feliciano for the reverse force double play.
Owens retired the Bison in order in the 3rd, but got into some trouble in the 4th. Former Indy Indian Luis Figueroa zapped a grounder just inside the third base line and down into the left field corner, where LF John Bowker had to chase it down, as Figueroa raced to third base with a triple. 2B Michael Fisher lined a single up the middle, scoring Figueroa. Then Owens returned to the first/second- inning form. He got Nieuwenhuis to fly out, and got Pascucci to ground into an around the horn double play, started by 3B Andy Marte.
Meek’s Perfect Inning, Ciriaco’s Big Homer
The throw from first bounced off the runner Ezequiel Carrera and skipped past 2B Pedro Ciriaco.
Indianapolis Indians 7, Columbus Clippers 3
(box)
Another rainy day, an another win for the Indians.
The Tribe waited out a 95 minute delay before the game even started, then hung on through a drizzly rainy game, to win their fourth game in a row -- their longest winning streak of the season. They also handed the first-place Columbus Clippers their fourth loss in a row. Justin Thomas earned his second win of the season, and 2B Pedro Ciriaco blasted a huge 3-run homer, while 3B Brian Friday went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Rudy Owens (photo) made the start for the Tribe, but ended up not being involved in the decision. Owens pitched 6 innings and allowed only 2 runs, which came in the top of the 1st and involved a strange play. Clippers' CF Ezequiel Carrera led off with a bunt single, which Owens could not get into his glove. Owens made a pick-off throw to first as Carrera took off for second. 1B Matt Hague relayed the throw to second, but the ball bounced off the sliding Carrera and eluded 2B Ciriaco. The ball skipped into left field, and Carrera advanced to third base, as Ciriaco was charged with a missed catch error. RF Jerad Head tapped back to the mound. Owens scooped up the ball, glared Carrera into staying put on third base, then threw to first for the out. 3B Lonnie Chisenhall was hit on the hip by a pitch to give the Clippers runners on the corners. DH Chad Huffman slipped a grounder past a diving Hague, and Carrera scored from third base. 2B Jason Kipnis followed with a long fly ball to center field for a sacrifice fly, which scored Chisenhall for a 2-0 lead.
The Indians came right back to score one run in the bottom of the 1st off Columbus starter Zach McAllister. With one out, Ciriaco reached base when 3B Chisenhall made the scoop but dropped the ball on the transfer. CF Alex Presley blooped a single into short left field, which fell in between two Columbus fielders. Ciriaco rounded second base and got partway to third, then got hung up as the Columbus LF Josh Rodriguez had the ball and was about to throw it in. Ciriaco got out of his poor base-running when he made a dash for third, and Rodriguez made a poor throw to third base, as Ciriaco slid in safely. Presley moved up to second base on the throw to third. LF John Bowker grounded to short, collecting an RBI as Ciriaco scored from third to cut the Clippers' lead to 2-1.
Indians Fall In 11th Despite Strong Start By Owens
Durham Bulls 2, Indianapolis Indians 1
(box)
The Indians and the Bulls took it into extra innings at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, but it was the Bulls who came out on top. After taking advantage of an Indians' error, Bulls' LF Justin Ruggiano lined a bases-loaded single for the walk-off win.
Rudy Owens (photo) made the start for the Indians, one day later than he would have been regularly scheduled, because he was serving out the end of his suspension from last week. Owens gave up only a single over the first two innings, then found himself needing to work out of big jams in the 3rd and 4th. With one out in the 3rd, Bulls' SS Ray Olmedo reached base when his Indians' counterpart, SS Pedro Ciriaco, dropped his grounder for an error. CF Desmond Jennings walked, and Ruggiano beat out an infield hit on a swinging bunt down the third base line. 3B Josh Harrison was not expecting such a short hit, and by the time he charged in to get it, Ruggiano was already at first base. RF Brandon Guyer stepped to the plate with the bases loaded, and bounced to third, where Harrison made the scoop and instead of trying for an around-the-horn double play, he fired to the plate, and C Dusty Brown made the force out on Olmedo. Owens struck out 3B Felipe Lopez to end the inning without a run scoring.
Owens had to work out of a jam again in the 4th. He walked DH ChrisCarter, then C Robinson Chirinos smacked a grounder to third base, which hit Harrison on the leg and ricocheted all the way behind second base and into short right field. By the time 2B Brian Friday could track it down, Carter had rounded second and alertly advanced to third base. 1B Leslie Anderson followed with a line drive into right field, scoring Carter from third base with the first run of the game. There were still two runners on base and no outs. 2B Omar Luna dropped down a bunt that got too close to the mound -- Owens was able to snatch it up and throw to third base for the force out of the lead runner Chirinos. A single into center field by Olmedo loaded the bases again, but Owens held tight. He got a pop out (infield fly rule) and a fly out to end the inning without any more runs scoring. Bulls 1, Indians 0.
Owens retired the next 6 Bulls in order to finish his evening's work. In 6 innings, Owens threw 90 pitches (55 strikes), and allowed that one run on 5 hits and 2 walks, with 3 strikeouts.
Tribe Splits Double-Header; Rainy Days Elsewhere
The Indians won game one of today's double header.
All the rain that was in Central Indiana yesterday moved east today.
The Altoona Curve hosting the Akron Aeros were rained out today. That game will be made up on Saturday May 21st.
The West Virginia Power hosting the Greensboro Grasshoppers were also rained out. No make-up date has been announced yet.
The Bradenton Marauders had a scheduled day off today. They are going to play their next two "home" games against the St. Lucie Mets in Port Charlotte (Charlotte Sports Park), on Wednesday and Thursday, due to roof repairs at McKechnie Field.
Indianapolis Indians 5, Durham Bulls 2
(box)
The Indianapolis Indians and the Durham Bulls split today's double-header at Victory Field. The first game began at 11 am, with buses full of school kids present, under dark and dreary skies. As the first game wrapped up, the sun came out, and by the middle of the second game, there were sunny skies and happy clouds.
LF Alex Presley (photo) began the game on a sunny note for the Indians. With two outs in the bottom of the 1st, Presley blasted a solo home run over the right field wall at the 362' mark, into a group of lucky school kids.
Starter Brad Lincoln buzzed through the first two innings, allowing only one hit and striking out 2 batters. With one out in the top of the 3rd, Lincoln ran the count full then walked Bulls' SS Ray Olmedo. CF Desmond Jennings slipped a ground ball through the right side of the infield for a single, moving Olmedo to second base. RF Justin Ruggiano crushed a long ball off the top of the wall in the deepest part of the park, just inches from being a home run. The ball ricocheted off the wall, driving in both Olmedo and Jennings, as Ruggiano slid safely into third base. The Bulls had taken the lead, 2-1.
The Tribe answered right away with 2 runs in the bottom of the frame. 2B Brian Friday led off with a bloop single into short left field. CF Gorkys Hernandez bunted Friday to second base, and DH Corey Wimberly followed by dropping another bloopy hit into the space behind third base, out of the reach of any of the Bulls. Friday scrambled around to score from second base, tying the score. Wimberly promptly stole second base. After a pop out, Presley grounded through the left side of the infield, sending Wimberly around to score. The throw in from left field was not in time to get the speedy Wimberly at the plate, but Bulls' C Robinson Chirinos alertly threw down to first base, where he caught Presley in the middle of nowhere -- too far from first to get back before the throw, and too far from second base to get there either. Presley was out in the run-down (photo), ending the inning.
Indians Washed Under By Tides
Brian Friday makes the play at third base.
Norfolk Tides 6, Indianapolis Indians 0
(box)
Three Norfolk pitchers combined to hold the Indians to just 3 hits in a shut-out game tonight at Victory Field. Only the outfielders had hits -- LF Alex Presley and CF Gorkys Hernandez both singled and RF Andrew Lambo doubled. Starter Rudy Owens was not able to contain the Tides' batters, and he suffered his second loss of the season.
The Tides' batters got to Owens (photo) in the top of the 1st. CF Tyler Henson and 2B Ryan Adams led off with back-to-back singles into left field. With runners on the corners, Owens struck out the next two batters, former Indy Indian SS Nick Green and 1B Brandon Snyder. It looked like Owens might get out of the jam, but LF Nolan Reimold worked the count full, fouled off a couple more pitches, then ripped a double into left-center field. LF Presley and CF Hernandez both raced toward the ball, and at the last possible second, Presley made a desperate dive -- but could not come up with the ball. That drove in both base runners, to give the Tides a 2-0 lead.
Owens pitched a scoreless 2nd inning, then gave up a solo home run to Snyder in the 3rd inning, increasing the Tides' lead to 3-0. He retired the side in order in the 4th. In the 5th, RF Blake Davis grounded sharply through the hole and into left field, but as he rounded first and headed for second, Davis was not counting on Presley in left field. Presley came up throwing, and his throw to 2B Pedro Ciriaco was on-target and well ahead of Davis, who was out at second. Adams also reached base when he grounded to first. 1B Matt Hague made a great diving stop, but when Owens arrived to cover the bag, he dropped Hague's toss for an error. Adams was left on first when a fly out ended the inning.
