Starting Pitcher: Enmanuel De Los Santos

  • Final Line: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K

Notable Performances:

  • Braylon Bishop 0-5
  • Jesus Castillo 1-1, BB
  • Enmanuel Terrero 1-3, BB
  • Jeral Toledo 0-2, 2 BB
  • Owen Kellington 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K
  • Owen Sharts 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 2 K
  • Bubba Chandler 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Game Recap:

The FCL Pirates (4-2) didn’t have one of their better efforts against the Rays, with errors, walks and a lack of hitting leading to an 8-2 loss.  Starter Enmanuel De Los Santos gave up five runs over two and a third innings, but four were unearned.  After Yoelvis Reyes got the last two outs in the third, Owen Kellington came in and that didn’t go well.  He faced two batters, walking one and fanning the other, then left with a hamstring problem.  According to twitter, it’s not bad, and as we know, when the Pirates say an injury is not bad, you can take it to the bank.  Owen Sharts relieved Kellington and that didn’t go well, either, as Sharts walked four in an inning and a third.  Bubba Chandler worked an inning and nothing bad happened; in fact, he was the only Pirate pitcher not to walk anybody on a day when the staff walked ten.  Nic Laio finished with two innings and one run allowed.

The hitters managed only four hits, but did pick up eight walks, making 18 overall for the game.  (Low minors games can be an ordeal at times.)  Rafael Escalante accounted for one run by tripling and coming home on a sacrifice fly.  Jesus Castillo had a single and a walk, and is now hitting .579.  He left for a pinch hitter after those two plate appearances, with no explanation apparent from the box score.  Jasiah Dixon had the other two hits.
