Notes: The Indianapolis offense was quiet today, leaving nine runners in scoring position. Chase D’Arnaud (.381) was one of those runners, leading off the fourth inning with a triple, only to see the Indians follow that up with two strikeouts and a ground out to end the inning. Josh Harrison (.222) got Indianapolis on the board in the fifth with a solo homer, his first of the season, making it 2-1 Toledo. Pedro Ciriaco and Gorkys Hernandez each stole their third base of the season. Ciriaco also had two errors at second base.
Brian Burres (0-2, 4.22) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits, with two walks, three strikeouts and two homers. The bullpen held things together, combining for 3.1 shutout innings, but Indianapolis couldn’t stage a comeback. Tony Watson (2.45), Joe Beimel (0.00) and Tim Wood (0.00) all combined for the 3.1 shutout innings. It was Beimel’s second appearance in as many days, which is a good sign that his rehab work is coming along well.
ALTOONA CURVE (AA)
Result: Altoona 2, Akron 0
Starting Pitcher: Bryan Morris (6.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 0 HR)
Top Hitter: Eric Fryer (3-for-4, 2B, R)
Notes: Altoona got a great outing from Bryan Morris (1-0, 1.74) who pitched a gem. Morris went six shutout innings, allowing four hits, one walk, and striking out three. He also had a 10:4 GO/AO ratio. Brian Leach (3.86) came on in the seventh, pitching a shutout inning, but allowing one walk, displaying his control issues again. Michael Dubee (2.08) and Noah Krol (0.00) pitched the final two innings, with Krol getting the save.
The Altoona offense was fueled by two players. Eric Fryer (.263) went 3-for-4 with a double and a run. He was hitting behind Jeremy Farrell (.391) who went 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Starling Marte (.400) had a good all around day, going 1-for-4 with an RBI, along with his second steal of the season, and an outfield assist, nailing a runner at home.
BRADENTON MARAUDERS (A+)

Top Hitter: Aaron Baker (3-for-5, 2B, HR, 3 R, 4 RBI)
Notes: The Bradenton offense exploded again today, which combined with a strong start from their pitching staff, gave them a dominant win. Aaron Baker (.467) and Jarek Cunningham (.292) led the offense, with each player homering and recording multiple hits. Ramon Cabrera (.556), David Rubinstein (.474), Elevys Gonzalez (.375), and Benji Gonzalez (.250) all had multiple hits as well.
Kyle McPherson (0.93) pitched four innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits, with no walks and five strikeouts. Gabriel Alvarado (6.75) pitched two innings, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks. Porfirio Lopez (4.50) made his high-A debut, going two innings, and allowing one run on two hits. Jhonathan Ramos (0.00) closed it out with a shutout inning.
WEST VIRGINIA POWER (A)

Top Hitter: Matt Curry (3-for-4, 2B, 2 3B, RBI)
Notes: You couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season from Zack Von Rosenberg (1.80). The 2009 6th round pick threw five innings, allowing a run on four hits, with that run coming on a solo homer. He also walked just one and struck out nine. Brooks Pounders (1-0, 4.50) blew the save, allowing two runs, one earned, in two innings, while striking out four. However, Pounders did get the win, while Ryan Beckman (0.00) got his second save of the year, pitching two shutout innings.
The offense was led by Matt Curry (.533) and Justin Howard (.455). Curry had three hits, with a double and two triples. Howard went 3-for-3 with a double and a homer, his first of the season. He also drove in four runs. Mel Rojas Jr. (.167) went 2-for-4, and was caught stealing.
