There were two themes to today’s game with Anthony Rendon. He struck out looking in his only two at-bats, and he was intentionally walked in his other three plate appearances.
Rendon came up in the first inning and was actually pitched to with two outs and no one on. He was called out looking on a 2-2 pitch, with the pitch catching the inside corner of the plate. He was intentionally walked in his next appearance, with a runner on second and one out in the fourth.
Rendon was pitched to in the seventh inning with a runner on first and no outs. With a full count, he was hit in the hand with a pitch. However, the home plate umpire ruled it a foul ball. Rendon was called out on strikes on the next pitch, with this one being a borderline strike on the inside corder.
He was intentionally walked in his final two plate appearances. The first one came in the eighth with one out and a runner at third base. The second one came in the tenth inning with no outs and runners on first and third in a tie game. ECU ended up walking in the go-ahead run right after the intentional walk to Rendon, followed by an RBI single to make the score 5-3.
