Pirates Non-Tender Chaz Roe and Gaby Sanchez; Tender Every Other Eligible Player

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have non-tendered right-handed pitcher Chaz Roe and first baseman Gaby Sanchez, making them free agents. They have tendered every other eligible player on the roster, including the 11 arbitration eligible players.

Sanchez was designated for assignment yesterday to make room for Sean Rodriguez on the 40-man roster. Chaz Roe was out of options, and was going to eventually get removed from the 40-man roster, since he didn’t project to make the bullpen out of Spring Training. The Pirates could try to sign either player back as a free agent.

The 40-man roster is now at 39, and the Pirates will need the final spot when the Radhames Liz signing becomes official.
