A look at how the current top 20 prospects did today. Note that this list doesn’t include players currently in the majors. If a player is in the majors, he will be removed, everyone below him will be shifted up a spot, and a new player will be added to the bottom of the list. If a player is out for the season (Jameson Taillon #1, Clay Holmes #12), he will be removed and everyone below him will move up a spot. Removing these guys doesn’t mean they have lost prospect status. It is just an attempt to get 20 active prospects on the list. Rankings are from the mid-season top 20 update, and links on each name go to their Pirates Prospects player pages.

Game Notes: In his first Triple-A start since June 23, A.J. Morris got roughed up a bit. Morris allowed eight hits and six runs in three innings. However, he settled down nicely in the fourth and fifth innings, striking out four of the five hitters that he fanned on the night. He did not allow a hit in that two-inning span. The velocity for Morris was the 89-91 range where he left from when he was placed on the DL June 25 with a right forearm strain.
Andy Oliver tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Morris. Oliver struck out four, but also uncorked two wild pitches. Ernesto Frieri struck out one in a perfect eighth inning. John Holdzkom also picked up a strikeout in a perfect ninth.
Clint Barmes went 0-for-4, but played back-to-back games for the first time on his rehab assignment. Brent Morel added his 17th and 18th double of the season. – Ryan Palencer

Game Notes: Stolmy Pimentel made his first relief appearance after going on the disabled list six days ago with a sprained right ankle. He needed just nine pitches to get through his one inning, throwing seven of them for strikes. Thomas Harlan followed him and had a rough game, giving up four runs over four innings. Nate Baker followed him with two shutout innings, giving him a 1.71 ERA through 21 innings with Altoona. Curve batters struck out 12 times in the game, giving them 1063 strikeouts with 11 games left in the season. The league record is 1195 set in 2012.

Game Notes: This game had a delay of almost two hours before it started due to rain. Chad Kuhl was ready to pitch once the game started, going six strong innings. He allowed just one hit and the only run was unearned. The Marauders had a 2-1 lead going into the ninth inning with Yhonathan Barrios taking the mound looking for his eighth save in eight opportunities. He gave up two hits and two walks, including a grand slam that cost the Marauders the game.
A: WEST VIRGINIA POWER
West Virginia was rained out. The game was canceled and won’t be rescheduled.
A-: JAMESTOWN JAMMERS
Result: Jamestown 2, Batavia 0
Starting Pitcher: Montana DuRapau, RHP – 5.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 0 HR

Game Notes: Montana DuRapau threw five shutout innings for the second straight start. The 32nd round pick from this year has given up one earned run or less in 11 of his 13 appearances. Through 51 innings, he has a 44:8 K/BB ratio, along with a 2.29 ERA. This was a nice bounce back game for DuRapau, who allowed five runs the last time he faced Batavia. Jordan Luplow has five hits over the last two days. He has 50 hits in his first 50 games as a pro. Elvis Escobar had two hits, giving him a .327 average with Jamestown. In 55 games with West Virginia this year, he hit .210, with a .554 OPS.
RK: BRISTOL PIRATES

Game Notes: John Sever was pitching great in relief this year, putting up incredible strikeout numbers. He moved to the starting role last week and had a strong start, but his second start was a disaster. He lasted just one inning, giving up three runs and walking three batters. Sever had a 50:9 K/BB ratio coming into the game, doing that in just 30.2 innings. All three runs were earned, though Bristol’s fielders didn’t give Sever any help. They committed two errors and catcher Danny Arribas had two passed balls during Sever’s only inning. Jonathan Sandfort’s poor season continued, as he gave up six runs over 1.1 innings. In 34.1 innings this year, he has allowed 64 hits and 43 earned runs. Bristol scored just one run, but everyone in the starting lineup reached base at least once.

Game Notes: The Pirates lost for the fifth straight game to drop to 18-36 with six games left in the season. Cole Tucker went 0-for-3 with a walk and his 12th stolen base. He is hitting .222 in his last nine games. Tucker hasn’t driven in a run in 11 games and he’s hitting .136 with runners in scoring position this season. Michael de la Cruz went 0-for-4, dropping his average down to .138 through 28 games. Sam Kennelly had a hit and a walk. He has a .380 OBP and has reached base at least once in 25 of his 27 games. Reliever Miguel Ferreras has thrown five no-hit innings over five appearances since being demoted from Bristol.

Game Notes: The game was from Wednesday. It was suspended after six innings with the score tied 3-3 and the Pirates coming up to bat. When it resumed, the two teams combined for nine runs over the last three innings with the Pirates pulling out the victory. Raul Siri had a single and three walks, scored two runs and drove in another. Sandy Santos collected his third triple and stole his 14th base. Catcher Patrick Reyes and first baseman Jhoan Herrera each had two RBIs.

Game Notes: In game two, The Pirates lost 5-4, moving to 34-36 on the season with just two games left. Sandy Santos drove in two runs and stole his 15th base. Raul Siri stole his 11th base. Starter Francis Rodriguez gave up four runs over four innings. Coming into the game, he had a 2.40 ERA and had not allowed more than three earned runs in any outing this season.
