Published:

Josh Bell extended his hit streak to 12 games on Wednesday night when he collected this double in the sixth inning. Bell has a .332/.382/.516 slash line through 71 games with Bradenton and he was recently named to the Future’s Game. He is third in the FSL in hits, OPS and RBIs, second in slugging percentage and tied for fifth in doubles.

On Wednesday afternoon, Pirates first round draft pick Cole Tucker collected his first extra-base hit as a pro. He doubled in the first inning, then scored on a double by Carlos Munoz. The GCL Pirates had five straight hits in that first inning, four went for extra bases. Tucker is 2-for-9 early in his career. Castro had two starts earlier this month in which he allowed a combined 12 runs over 8.1 innings. In his other 13 outings combined, he has a 2.29 ERA.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
