Weekend Draft Prospects Preview 3/4-3/6

Published:

Rendon is getting some competition for the top overall pick.

A few 2011 draft prospect notes heading in to the weekend:

Earlier today I took a look at whether Gerrit Cole could make a run at the number one overall pick this year.  Jason Churchill and Keith Law have some other guys who are trying to pass Anthony Rendon for the number one pick.

-Anthony Rendon has drawn two walks in each of his last five games.  His OBP during that stretch is .667.

Rice’s coach Wayne Graham is being cautious about putting Rendon back on the field.  Rendon will be the DH again this weekend.

MLBTR did a Q&A with top pitching prospect Matt Purke.

-Frankie Piliere, formerly of FanHouse, and a former scout with the Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers, has his top 50 draft eligible prospects at USA Today.

The schedule for the top three draft prospects this weekend:

FRIDAY

2:30 PM EST – UCLA (Cole) at Nebraska

6:30 PM EST – TCU (Purke) at Texas Tech

8:00 PM EST – Rice (Rendon) vs Kentucky

SATURDAY

8:00 PM EST – Rice (Rendon) vs Texas A&M

SUNDAY

8:00 PM EST – Rice (Rendon) vs Baylor
