Rob Biertempfel has some updates from General Manager Neal Huntington:
-Trade talks for Ryan Doumit have died down, according to Huntington. He did mention that things usually pick back up the first few weeks of the season. I think it’s pretty much a guarantee that Doumit will open the season with the team. As for his trade value, I don’t think that’s going to increase in a bench role. Unless we see a ton of catching injuries around the league, I think Doumit will be sticking around for awhile.
-Scott Olsen, who has been recovering from a strained left hamstring, will be throwing a side session on Monday. Huntington said Olsen hasn’t fallen too far behind Charlie Morton in the battle for the 5th starter job.
-Josh Rodriguez, the 2010 Rule 5 pick, hasn’t seen much playing time, but still has a chance to make the team. Huntington said the Pirates would try to trade for him and retain his rights before they returned him to Cleveland.
