Luis Heredia Placed on the West Virginia DL

Published:

Luis Heredia has been placed on the West Virginia disabled list, per a West Virginia press release. Heredia left his last start after throwing one pitch, leaving with right shoulder discomfort. Last night a West Virginia coach said that it wasn’t major, and that he was experiencing soreness.

Elbow injuries and Tommy John surgery get the most attention, but those are pretty standard, and not a big deal in the long-term. Shoulder injuries are the real career killer, so any type of shoulder discomfort comes with concern. I received several reports from the game saying that Heredia didn’t have any velocity on his warm-up pitches, which is another concern. Hopefully this is a case where the Pirates are being extra cautious after Heredia experienced discomfort.

Brett McKinney has been added to the roster to replace Heredia.
