Injury Notes: Jones, Inman, Burnette, Brewer, Mathisen

Providing a few updates on some injuries that occurred last season…

**JaCoby Jones went down with a knee injury in July, and missed the rest of the season. He didn’t return from instructs, but I’ve been told that he should be good to go for Spring Training. I’ve also been told that there isn’t any long-term concern with his injury that should restrict where he plays on the field. Jones split time between shortstop and center field last year.

**Jeff Inman injured his elbow in May, and missed the rest of the year. He underwent Tommy John surgery during the season and won’t be back until later in the 2014 season.

**Jake Burnette had elbow soreness the last two years, which put him out a few times. However, he ended up missing most of 2013 due to shoulder surgery. He won’t be back until later in the 2014 season.

**Colten Brewer only made three starts with Jamestown, then was shut down for the rest of the year. His missed time was due to a stress reaction in his right lower leg. He is expected to be ready for Spring Training.

**Wyatt Mathisen missed a lot of time last season with a partially torn labrum. He felt the injury during the first series of the year in West Virginia. Eventually he had to be shut down to allow the injury to heal, once he realized it wasn’t dead arm. I talked to Mathisen here at mini-camp and he said the shoulder is fully healed. He was back to playing at the end of last season, but the fact that the shoulder is no longer an issue is a good sign. It’s possible that could have been the cause for his struggles in West Virginia, since he got the injury at the start of the season.
