Pittsburgh Pirates first base prospect Alex Dickerson has been promoted to Indianapolis, according to Cory Giger.

Dickerson had a .291/.339/.499 line and 17 homers in 447 at-bats coming into the day. He went 0-for-4 today in Altoona’s final game of the season. He went 4-for-4 with a homer last night, after being named the Eastern League rookie of the year and the Altoona MVP. Dickerson started the year slow, but picked up the pace in June. From June through last night he had a .327/.372/.561 line in 294 at-bats, with 14 of his homers.
Altoona’s season is now over, so Dickerson will join Indianapolis in time for the playoffs. The Pirates recently promoted Casey Sadler and Gregory Polanco for that playoff stretch, along with Zach Thornton. The playoffs for Indianapolis begin on Wednesday.
It’s possible that Dickerson could begin the 2014 season in Triple-A, although that isn’t a guarantee. Matt Curry was promoted to Indianapolis last year for the playoffs, then returned to Altoona this year due to the depth the Pirates stored in Triple-A. Dickerson only had half a season of success, so it’s possible he could be pushed back to Altoona next year. That said, many people have moved from Double-A to the majors in one year over the past few seasons, with the most recent player being Andrew Lambo this year. If Dickerson keeps this up, he could make that same jump next year.
