According to Colin Dunlap, Ross Ohlendorf has won his arbitration case against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The decision means that Ohlendorf will receive $2.025 M for his 2011 salary. That’s a raise of $1,586,000 over his 2010 salary, and an extra $625,000 over the $1.4 M the Pirates were offering.
The 2011 40-man roster/payroll projection is updated. The Pirates are now right under $40 M with this change.
Going forward, there are a few expected additions which could raise this number:
-One of the Andy Marte/Josh Fields/Garrett Atkins group could win a bench role.
-Joe Beimel will most likely win a bullpen role.
-Jose Veras could win a bullpen role.
Those moves could raise the payroll up an additional $2.3 M, putting the estimated opening day payroll around $42 M.
