Pirates Acquire Atahualpa Severino From the Royals

Published:

According to Bob Dutton of Royals Report, the Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired Atahualpa Severino from the Kansas City Royals for cash considerations.

Severino is a left-handed pitcher who has pitched 4.2 innings in the majors, all coming in 2011. This year in the minors the 28-year-old has a 3.00 ERA in 9 innings, with a 10:6 K/BB ratio. As expected, he generally has a ground ball rate around 50% for his career. According to a 2009 Baseball America scouting report, Severino throws 89-93 MPH and touches 94, throwing a four seamer and a two seamer.

Severino will go to Indianapolis, probably to replace Mike Zagurski who is now in the majors. This is a minor move which happens to come with the difficult task of remembering how to spell Atahualpa.
