Earlier today the list of minor league free agents came out, with 19 players from the Pirates’ organization electing minor league free agency. Baseball America also has their transactions report from the last week, with a few more updates.
Two moves that have been speculated are official: Steven Jackson and Brandon Moss have declared free agency. Both players were outrighted off the roster last week, and since it was the second outright off the 40-man roster for each player, they were able to declare free agency.
The Pirates also released Chris Jakubauskas, who they had claimed off of waivers from the Seattle Mariners last November. Jakubauskas made one start in the majors in 2010, but was knocked out of the game early after taking a line drive to the head, which put him on the disabled list for most of the season. Jakubauskas wouldn’t have been eligible for minor league free agency until the 2013 season, although there probably won’t be a lot of space for him in AAA next year with all of the pitching prospects making their way up from Altoona.
The Pirates also re-signed Greg Picart, who was eligible for minor league free agency. This is the second year in a row that Picart has been eligible for free agency, and the second year in a row he’s re-signed with the Pirates.
