The Mesa Solar Sox went 3-2 this week, and currently sit 12-10, two games behind the Scottsdale Scorpions. Here is how the Pirates prospects fared this week:
-Andrew Lambo played in five games this week, going 7-for-19 (.368) with two doubles, and a homer (3). He also had two errors and an outfield assist. Lambo is now hitting for a .308/.349/.513 line on the season.
-Tony Sanchez played in three games, going 1-for-12 (.083), with his only hit being a double. He walked twice, and struck out five times. Sanchez had a throwing error and was 0-for-5 against base stealers. Sanchez is now hitting for a .217/.308/.370 line on the season. He participated in the AFL Rising Stars game on Saturday, going 0-for-1 with a fly out to right field in his only plate appearance.
-Josh Harrison had another big week, going 5-for-11 (.455), with a double and two walks. Harrison is now hitting for a .254/.384/.585 line this season, including a 15-for-29 stretch over the last two weeks.
-Jordy Mercer went 2-for-11 with a double and a stolen base. Mercer is hitting for a .259/.311/.333 line this season.
-Justin Wilson started on Wednesday, pitching three innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits, with two walks and two strikeouts. Wilson threw 51 pitches, with 31 for strikes, and also threw a wild pitch. His fastball ranged from 88-93 MPH, averaging 90.4 MPH. His slider ranged from 82-96 MPH, averaging 84.1 MPH. He threw five curveballs, with two at 74 and three at 76 MPH. His changeup ranged from 83-85 MPH. Wilson only threw 27 fastballs, which is surprising, as the Pirates pitchers have been working heavily with their fastballs in the AFL so far. Wilson has a 3.60 ERA in 10 innings of work this season, with a 10:3 K/BB ratio.
-Brian Leach made one appearance, pitching a shutout inning, allowing no hits, although he walked four batters and struck out one. Leach threw 27 pitches, with only eight going for strikes. His fastball ranged from 93-95 MPH, averaging 93.9 MPH. He threw four sliders, ranging from 85-88 MPH. He also threw two changeups, both hitting 85 MPH. Leach has yet to allow an earned run in seven innings, but has a 2.14 WHIP, and a 4:5 K/BB ratio.
-Aaron Pribanic made two appearances, combining for four innings, allowing five hits, one earned run, one walk, and three strikeouts. In his first outing, he pitched two innings, allowing one run on four hits, with no walks and three strikeouts. The run was the first earned run allowed by Pribanic this year. He threw 27 pitches with 22 strikes. Pribanic ranged from 90-93 with his fastball, averaging 91.7 MPH. He threw two sliders, hitting 82-83. He also threw three changeups, hitting 83 twice, and 85 on the last change.
In his second outing, he pitched two shutout innings, allowing a walk and a hit. Pribanic threw 25 pitches, with 13 for strikes. Pribanic threw 24 fastballs out of his 25 pitches, including fastballs for the first 20 pitches, before throwing an 80 MPH changeup. His fastball ranges from 89-93 MPH, averaging 90.8 MPH. His last three pitches came in at 93, 92, and 92. Pribanic had a 6-0 GO/AO ratio. Pribanic has an 0.73 ERA in 12 innings this season, with an 8:4 K/BB ratio.
