The Mesa Solar Sox got off to a great start in the first week of the Arizona Fall League, going 4-1. Since there is no AFL action on Sundays, I will use each Sunday to review how the Pirates prospects did that week, as well as an update on the overall season. This recap will also include Pitch F/X data, when available. Here is how the Pirates prospects fared this week:
-Andrew Lambo started all five games, combining for a .292/.292/.458 line in 24 at-bats, with a double and a homer. Lambo struck out five times, with no walks.
-Tony Sanchez started three games, with a .333/.385/.333 line in 12 at-bats. Sanchez walked once and struck out four times.
-Josh Harrison started three games, including two from the leadoff spot, playing left field, second base, and serving as the designated hitter once. Harrison hit for a .133/.176/.200 line in 15 at-bats, with a double, a walk, and five strikeouts.
-Jordy Mercer started three games, combining for a .429/.429/.571 line in 14 at-bats, with two doubles, no walks, and two strikeouts.
-Justin Wilson got the start on Saturday, pitching two shutout innings with two hits and one walk allowed, while striking out three. According to Keith Law, Wilson touched 95, and had several 93-94s.
-Brian Leach made two appearances, pitching two shutout innings, and allowing just two hits, while striking out two. Leach threw 16 pitches where Pitch F/X data was available. In those 16 pitches, Leach threw 13 fastballs, one changeup, and two sliders. His fastball ranged from 93-96 MPH, averaging 94.6. The fastball only dropped to 93 once, and hit 96 three times. His only changeup was 82 MPH, and his two sliders were 83 and 85 MPH.
-Aaron Pribanic made one appearance, pitching 2.1 innings, and allowing an unearned run on two hits, with no walks and three strikeouts. Pribanic’s outing was in the Pitch F/X park, where he threw 32 pitches, with 27 of those pitches being fastballs. His fastball ranged from 88-93 MPH, averaging 90.9 MPH. He dropped below 90 MPH just three times, and hit 93 MPH three times. Pribanic threw four changeups, hitting 83, 82, 85, then 86 MPH. He threw one curve ball, which was at 82 MPH.
