Minor League Schedule: 8/30/12

Luis Heredia will start tonight during State College’s doubleheader. It will likely be the next to last start of the season for Heredia, with six more days left in SC’s schedule after today. The second game of West Virginia’s doubleheader yesterday was suspended in the third inning. They will resume the game, prior to the start of today’s regularly schedule contest. The GCL Pirates won the GCL championship yesterday.  The DSL Pirates1 started the second round of their playoffs yesterday, winning game one of the best of three series. Heredia has a 1.11 WHIP

Triple-A: Indianapolis (85-54) @ Toledo (58-81) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Kyle McPherson (0-1 0.98)

Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis 4 Toledo 3 (game story)

Kyle McPherson will make his fourth start for Indianapolis tonight. He also made nine starts for Altoona, and pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the Pirates last week. In his first start for Indy, he went six innings, allowing one run on three hits, with no walks and six strikeouts. His next outing was 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks, with six strikeouts. In Kyle’s last start, he threw seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits and two walks, with five strikeouts.

Double-A: Altoona (67-70) vs Akron (79-58) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Kris Johnson (2-2 2.29)

Yesterday’s Result:   Altoona 2 Akron 1

Kris Johnson will get his ninth start for Altoona tonight. He has started four times for Indianapolis, and pitched 22 times in relief between his two stops. As a starter for the Curve, Kris is 1-2 1.88, with a 2.07 GO/AO ratio and a .211 BAA in 38.1 innings. His last start was his best, seven shutout innings, allowing three hits and two walks. Left-handed batters are hitting .171 against him.

High-A: Bradenton (60-73 overall 31-32 2nd half) @ St Lucie (79-52 overall 30-33 2nd half) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Kenn Kasparek (0-5 5.43)

Yesterday’s Result:  Ft Myers 9 Bradenton 8

Kenn Kasparek will get his sixth start of the year tonight. He has also made 16 relief appearances. In 56.1 innings, he has surrendered 68 hits, four homers, 19 walks, with 33 strikeouts and a 1.21 GO/AO ratio. Kenn gave up two runs on seven hits over six innings during his last start. He didn’t walk or strikeout a batter. As a starter, he has a 6.57 ERA in 24.2 innings, with a .354 BAA.

Low-A: West Virginia (57-76 overall 34-29 2nd half) @ Charleston (68-62 overall 29-34 2nd half) 6:05pm
Probable starter: Mike Jefferson (6-7 4.85)

Yesterday’s Result: Charleston 3 West Virginia 0 (game one) West Virginia 0 Charleston 0 (game two/suspended in the 3rd)

Mike Jefferson will get his 13th start of the season tonight. He has also made 17 relief appearances. In 102 total innings, he has allowed 102 hits, 11 homers, 37 walks and he has 82 strikeouts. In Mike’s last start, he went six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits, with no walks and five strikeouts. His previous start, which was against Charleston, he threw six innings, allowing one run on three hits, with no walks and four strikeouts. Jefferson has a 3.78 ERA away from home in 47.2 innings.

Short Season A: State College (31-37) vs Jamestown (29-38) 5:05pm DH
Probable Starter: Luis Heredia (3-2 2.86) and Dalton Friend (3-1 2.90)

Yesterday’s Result:   Auburn 6 State College 4

Luis Heredia will get his 13th start for State College tonight. He has pitched a total of 56.2 innings, allowing 47 hits, two homers, 16 walks and he has 33 strikeouts, with a 1.53 GO/AO ratio and a .232 BAA. In his last start, which was against Jamestown, Luis went five innings, allowing one run on three hits and no walks, with four strikeouts. He also faced Jamestown on 8/11, giving up two runs on three hits and a season high of four walks, over five innings of work. At home this year, Luis has a 2.78 ERA in seven starts, with a .200 BAA. Dalton Friend will start the other game of the doubleheader. It is the 22-year-old lefty’s first career start. He has pitched 16 games in relief this year, throwing 31 innings, with 31 hits allowed, one homer, four walks and 27 strikeouts. He has a 1.65 GO/AO ratio
