Minor League Schedule: 7/21/12

Indianapolis has a doubleheader today. No starter has been announced yet for game two. State College was rained out yesterday. They will play a doubleheader on Sunday.  Altoona was unable to play their doubleheader yesterday due to a lengthy rain delay and a 1am curfew. They will play a doubleheader today. West Virginia will finish the second game of last night’s doubleheader prior to today’s regularly scheduled game. The suspended game will go nine innings, while the regularly schedule game will be seven innings long. The score of the suspended game is 7-1 in the third inning, with West Virginia on top. Owens has lowered his ERA nearly two runs over last year at AAA

Triple-A: Indianapolis (61-39) @ Toledo (40-59) 5:30pm DH
Probable starter: Rudy Owens (8-4 3.07) and TBD

Rudy Owens will make his 19th start of the season tonight. He has pitched a total of 111.1 innings, allowing 106 hits, 12 homers, 23 walks and he has 81 strikeouts. In his last start, Rudy allowed four runs on seven hits and three walks in 5.1 innings. It was his second non-quality start in a row after making 15 straight quality starts. His ERA has gone up each month, from a low of 2.08 in April, to 2.43 in May, 3.00 in June and now 6.75 in three July starts. Owens ranks sixth in the International League with his 1.16 WHIP and his ERA ties him for fifth in the league with his teammate Jeff Locke.

Double-A: Altoona (45-51) VS Erie (46-51) 6:00pm DH
Probable starter: Phil Irwin (1-7 3.63) and Michael Colla (3-4 3.33)

Yesterday’s Result: Altoona 0 Erie 3 (game one) – game two was rained out

Phil Irwin will make his 13th start for Altoona tonight. He also pitched once in relief and made a rehab start while with Bradenton. For Altoona, he has pitched 74.1 innings, surrendering 79 hits, seven homers, 12 walks and he has 58 strikeouts. Phil has given up just one earned run in each of his last four starts, giving him a 1.50 ERA over his last 24 innings with three walks and 23 strikeouts. He is 0-4 4.50 at home this year in 36 innings. Michael Colla will get the other start today. He hasn’t started a game since May, when he was moved back to the bullpen. In seven starts this year, he was 0-4 5.15 in 36.2 innings. As a reliever, he has made 18 appearances, going 3-0 1.16 in 31 innings.

High-A: Bradenton (45-53 overall 16-12 2nd half) vs Tampa (47-48 overall 17-11 2nd half) 6:30pm
Probable starter: Colton Cain (3-5 4.22)

Colton Cain will make his 16th start of the season tonight. He has pitched a total of 74.2 innings, giving up 67 hits, ten homers, 25 walks and he has 51 strikeouts. In his last start, Colton gave up three runs over six innings. It was his third straight quality start and fourth in his last five outings. At home this year he is 2-3 3.95 in eight starts with 35 strikeouts in 41 innings. His strikeout rate is nearly double at home as opposed to road starts, where he has just 16 strikeouts in 33.2 innings.

Low-A: West Virginia (37-60 overall 14-13 2nd half) vs Delmarva (38-57 overall 10-16 2nd half) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Robby Rowland (5-2 3.06)

Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia 2 Delmarva 3 (game one) – game two was suspended in the third inning

Robby Rowland will get the start in game two, making his 12th appearance of the season, 11th as a starter. He has pitched a total of 53 innings, giving up 54 hits, two homers, 15 walks and he has 27 strikeouts. In his last start, Robby allowed six runs(three earned) and didn’t strike out a batter in 3.2 innings, his shortest start of the year. He faced Delmarva on 7/2, allowing three runs in 5.1 innings.

Short Season A: State College (16-15) vs Williamsport (11-20) 7:05pm
Probable Starter: Jason Creasy (0-2 4.50)

Yesterday’s Result: State College  was rained out

Jason Creasy will make his seventh start of the year tonight. He has pitched a total of 26 innings, surrendering 28 hits, two homers, seven walks and he has 14 strikeouts. In his last start, Jason went five innings, allowing three runs on a season high seven hits and for the first time, he failed to record a strikeout. Creasy faced Williamsport in his first start of the year, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks in 2.2 IP.
