Minor League Schedule: 6/11/12

Zack Von Rosenberg makes his second start of the season tonight. He went four innings in his first outing without allowing an earned run. Altoona has off today. They resume their schedule Tuesday night at home against Trenton. Both DSL teams were off yesterday. State College and the GCL Pirates begin their schedule one week from today. Von Rosenberg gets his first road start tonight

Triple-A: Indianapolis (36-27) VS Rochester (29-34) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Justin Wilson (4-4 4.23)

Yesterday’s Result: Indianapolis 8 Rochester 1

Justin Wilson will make his 13th start of the season tonight. He has pitched a total of 61.2 innings, giving up 51 hits, seven homers, 33 walks and he has 62 strikeouts. In his last start on 6/5, he allowed season highs in hits with nine and runs with seven, working just four innings. At home this year, he has a 2-1 2.42 record in five starts. Left-handed batters are hitting .176 against him. Wilson’s 62 strikeouts rank him ninth in the International League and first on Indianapolis, two ahead of Jeff Locke.

Probable starter: Tim Alderson (3-2 3.09)

Altoona is off today. They currently sits in fifth place in their division, trailing first place Akron by 12 games in the standings. The Curve have an 18-12 record at home, they’re 5-5 in their last ten games and they have lost three straight. Team leaders: Brock Holt .309 average.  Quincy Latimore 4 home runs. Matt Curry 26 RBI’s. Brandon Cumpton 2.97 ERA 1.08 WHIP 43 SO.

High-A: Bradenton (26-37) VS Jupiter (31-32) 6:30pm
Probable starter:  Eliecer Navarro (0-4 4.08)

Yesterday’s Result: Bradenton 4 Jupiter 11

Hunter Strickland was originally scheduled for today, but he pitched four innings in relief yesterday. Eliecer Navarro would be his likely replacement. Navarro has made three starts on the season and last pitched on 6/6, when he went 3.1 innings, allowing three runs on four hits in 3.1 innings. Eliecer is 0-3 7.43 as a starter and 0-1 2.73 in 33 relief innings.

Low-A: West Virginia (20-43) @ Lexington (35-27) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Zack Von Rosenberg (0-0 0.00)

Yesterday’s Result: West Virginia 3 Asheville 13

Zack Von Rosenberg will make his second start of the season tonight. He went four innings in his first start, allowing an unearned run on two hits, one walk and he struck out one batter. Zack started the year in extended Spring Training, working on his fastball command down in the zone. He pitched all last season for West Virginia, going 5-9 5.73 in 25 starts and two relief appearances. In 125.2 innings, Von Rosenberg gave up 143 hits, 19 homers, just 23 walks and he struck out a team high of 114 batters.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball.
