Pirates Prospect Watch: Jack Brannigan Homers Twice

Published:

Jack Brannigan homered twice for Greensboro on Tuesday night, extending his season total to 13 homers.

Brannigan hit a solo shot in the first inning with two outs, putting Greensboro on the board in a wild game. After the Grasshoppers allowed five runs in the second, the offense managed a six run bottom half of the inning. That was capped off by a three run homer from Brannigan, giving Greensboro a 7-5 lead. The Grasshoppers ended up losing 11-9.

Brannigan was drafted in the third round in 2022, and is in his second season at the High-A level. He was promoted to Greensboro mid-season last year, and hit .299/.382/.605 with 12 homers in 147 at-bats.

This year, Brannigan’s power has been down, compared to his first run through the level. He’s hitting .216/.339/.432 with 13 homers in 236 at-bats. He’s done well to reduce his strikeout rate from 33.5% last year to 25.1% this year, but that’s also come with a reduction in his average and power totals.

TRIPLE-A: INDIANAPOLIS INDIANS

INDIANAPOLIS was postponed.

DOUBLE-A: ALTOONA CURVE

ALTOONA won 4-0

  • SS Tsung-Che Cheng: 1-for-4, HR, 3 RBI

  • RHP David Bednar: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Bubba Chandler pitched two perfect innings in a shortened outing. Chandler will throw in the Future’s Game this weekend, and got a bit of a break in this start, after some impressive pitching over the last six weeks. Ryan Borucki made a rehab appearance, going more than one inning for the first time since his return. David Bednar followed with an inning of work to start his rehab assignment. Tsung-Che Cheng hit his ninth homer of the year, extending the Altoona lead to 4-0. They got on the board in the third inning on a Charles McAdoo RBI single.

Carlson Reed allowed three runs on five hits and two walks in six innings, giving up two solo homers. STATCAST HEROES

The home run from Esmerlyn Valdez traveled 395 feet at 109.4 MPH. The homer from Omar Alfonzo traveled 363 feet at 108.6 MPH. Both of the doubles from Eddy Rodriguez were around 103 MPH.
