Pirates Winter Leagues: Have Yourself a Day, Jase Bowen

Published:

Saturday in Australia saw five Pittsburgh Pirates play, with a big day from Jase Bowen highlighting the action. They also played some big playoff games in Colombia and Puerto Rico. A total of 11 Pirates saw action.

Australia

Jase Bowen went 3-for-5 with his second triple and third homer. He drove in three runs, scored twice, and picked up an outfield assist for the second straight game. He is now hitting .247/.315/.416 in 31 games.

Yesterday’s Pirates Winter Report article noted how a strong finish could push Bowen towards league average. He nearly got there in one day, now sitting just two points below the league average .733 OPS.

Sammy Siani went 1-for-4 with a double, walk and a run scored. He’s now hitting .285/.355/.504 in 35 games.

Dylan Shockley went 1-for-2 with two walks. He’s now batting .227/.339/.381 in 32 games.

Ernny Ordonez went 0-for-4 . He is now hitting .274/.319/.371 in 35 games.

Jesus Castillo went 0-for-4. He now has a .137/.228/.167 slash line in 31 games.

Puerto Rico

Tsung-Che Cheng went 0-for-4 in his team’s 2-0 win, which tied the best-of-seven series 3-3. He is 3-for-13 with two walks in six playoff games.

Josh Palacios went 1-for-2 with two walks and a stolen base, as his team won their playoff series. He is 6-for-20, with a double, homer and three walks in six playoff games.

Chavez Young went 1-for-3 with a run scored. He’s teammates with Palacios, so they will move on to the next round. He is 6-for-21 with a double, homer and four walks in six playoff games.

Duane Underwood Jr. faced the minimum in a scoreless inning, though his team lost. He might not be done, as there is the ability for players to be drafted for the next round of the playoffs. If he is done, his winter saw him throw six scoreless innings in six appearances.

Colombia

Andres Alvarez went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs, two RBIs and a walk. His team won 6-5 to tie the five-game series 2-2. He is 4-for-13 with a double and two walks in four playoff games.

Francisco Acuna went 0-for-4. He is 1-for-13 with two walks in four playoff games.
