The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed Miami Marlins first baseman Lewin Diaz earlier in the day today. They had to make room on the 40-man roster to add Diaz. The Pirates announced late Tuesday night that infielder Hoy Park has been designated for assignment.
Park had four different stints with the Pirates in 2022. He hit .216/.276/.373 in 60 plate appearances over 23 games. The rest of the year was spent with Triple-A Indianapolis, where he put up a .225/.332/.354 slash line in 89 games. He had ten homers, 52 walks, and he went 14-for-14 in steals. He played shortstop, second base, third base and right field with both the Pirates and Indianapolis this year. He also saw time in left field with Indianapolis, and he saw time in center field last year. The 26-year-old Park was acquired in the Clay Holmes trade with the New York Yankees, along with Diego Castillo.
