Indianapolis (74-74) got hammered by Columbus again, losing 7-1. Quinn Priester made his final start of the season and it didn’t go well, thanks to five walks in four and a third innings. Priester allowed three hits and four runs. Colin Selby fanned two to end the fifth inning, then Jeremy Beasley made his Pirates debut like a true Ben Cherington relief acquisition. He failed to retire a batter, allowing three runs in the process. John O’Reilly, Junior Fernandez and Nick Mears followed with a scoreless inning each. The offense was non-existent. Indy got a run without a hit in the first, thanks to two errors. After that they had just two hits, singles by Brendt Citta and Travis Swaggerty. Swaggerty added his 19th steal and Jared Oliva got his 21st. Tucupita Marcano, who came to the Pirates with the reputation of having great contact skills, fanned three times and hit into a double play. Malcom Nunez left the game after drawing a walk in his only plate appearance, then getting forced out at second. Endy Rodriguez left the game early a couple days ago and hasn’t returned, so the long season is probably taking its toll.
