The Pirates shutout the Braves 7-0 on Monday afternoon. Starter Wilbur Dotel tossed four shutout innings to lower him to a 1.29 ERA. Joaquin Tejada threw three scoreless frames in relief, striking out three batters. The Pirates scored their first run on a balk. Jesus Castillo singled in the next run, then he later scored on a balk. Shalin Polanco brought in the fourth run with a sacrifice fly. The next three runs scored on wild pitches in the seventh. Jesus Castillo reached all four times up with two singles and two walks. He stole his seventh base. He has a .406 average that leads the league by 50 points.

Adolfo Oviedo has struggled a bit this year, but he was strong on Monday with four shutout innings that knocked him down to a 4.94 ERA for the season. Hader Blanco followed and he was wild, walking four and hitting a batter before being removed with two outs in the fifth. Wilbur Martinez followed with 3.1 shutout innings, then Luis Brito gave up two harmless runs in the ninth for a 12-4 win. The Pirates scored in the first on a error and a sacrifice fly by Richard Ramirez. In the fifth, Robert De Paula, Daje Morales and Kelvin Diaz all doubled in runs, five total. Morales doubled in three more runs in the sixth, giving him five RBIs on the day and four doubles total. Angel Rodriguez had a sac fly and Isaac Paulino walked with the bases loaded. Ewry Espinal walked three times and stole two bases, giving him ten steals. Kelvin Diaz has 12 doubles and 14 stolen bases.

Pirates moved to a 29-12 record with a walk-off win against the Yankees. Starter Victor Cabreja allowed two runs in three innings and Patricio Ress allowed four runs in four innings. That latter picked up the win when the Pirates scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth. Yordany De Los Santos got the scoring started for the Pirates with his 12th double, which put them down 2-1 at the time. Isaias Dipre tied it with a sacrifice fly. An error gave the Pirates the lead, but their own error tied the game back up. The Pirates scored two runs in the seventh with bases loaded walks to Carlos Tirado and Roinny Aguiar. In the bottom of the ninth, De Los Santos hit his 13th double to make it 7-6. Dipre tied it with a sac fly, then De Los Santos scored on a walk-off wild pitch.
