The DSL Pirates were represented in yesterday’s DSL All-Star game by 16-year-old catcher Axiel Plaz and 18-year-old pitcher Andres Silvera. Plaz went 0-for-2, while Silvera tossed a scoreless inning in the 6-6 tie.

Starter Wilbur Dotel came into the day with an 0.41 ERA in 22 innings and then he gave up three runs over two innings, allowing two hits and three walks. Joaquin Tejada followed with two no-hit innings, allowing two walks and three strikeouts. Kevin Disla tossed two shutout innings and struck out four batters. Roelmy Garcia came on in the seventh and allowed two hits and two walks before the game went into a rain delay. He allowed two runs before the delay, then Drew Irvine allowed one of two inherited runners to score. Irvine ended up throwing 1.2 scoreless, then Eliecer Romero took over in the ninth with a one-run lead and nailed down the save.
Javier Rivas had a strong game, with a single, walk and a three-run homer. He drove in four runs total and scored twice. He is hitting .308 with an .891 OPS in 30 games. Lonnie White played his second game and had one hit, which was a two-run double. Enmanuel Terrero had two hits and a walk. He is hitting .357 with a .977 OPS in 22 games.

Adolfo Oviedo got the start and went four innings, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks, with five strikeouts. He has a 5.79 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 23 innings. Diego Chiquillo and Dioris Valdez each gave up one run in one inning. Yoerys Hernandez gave up an unearned run in his two innings, which was the runner at second base in extra innings (this was scheduled as a seven-inning game). The Pirates scored first on a wild pitch. An error led to the second run, then Kelvin Diaz drove in the third run with a single. He also drove in the fourth and fifth runs with a sixth inning single. Starter Victor Cabrera had a 5.60 ERA coming into the day, before lowering it nearly one full run by throwing 3.2 shutout innings on three hits and a walk. Despite allowing three hits and three walks, Rafael Mendez allowed one run in two innings. He helped himself out with four strikeouts. Wilkin Valdez lowered his ERA to 2.38 with three scoreless innings, as the Pirates won 10-1. The real story in this game was Eddy Rodriguez, who tripled and homered twice, driving in seven runs. He was batting .195 with four extra-base hits in 31 games coming into today. Yordany De Los Santos walked three times and stole his seventh base. He now leads the team with 23 walks. All-Star Axiel Plaz had two hits, including his tenth double. He has a 1.232 OPS this season. Roinny Aguiar stole his eighth base.
