Pirates Sign Kyle Cofield, Issue Spring Training Invites

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates have officially announced the signing of six minor league free agents via a team press release.  Five of the six we’ve already heard about (Jose Diaz, Brandon Boggs, Jake Fox, Shairon Martis, Stefan Welch).  The one name we haven’t heard is Kyle Cofield.

Cofield is a 6′ 5″, 220 pound right hander who pitched in the Chicago White Sox system last year.  Between the AA and AAA levels he combined for 30 innings, putting up a 3.30 ERA along with a 7.5 K/9 and a 3.9 BB/9.  He suffered a shoulder strain during the season.  Cofield will likely be used as depth on the AAA pitching staff.

The Pirates have also given out non-roster invitees to Spring Training to Brandon Boggs, Jake Fox, and Shairon Martis.
