All early afternoon games today. Two unknown starters on the schedule, so I’ll fill them in once they become available. The three short-season teams are all off on Sunday. Tucupita Marcano started a rehab assignment on Sunday with Bradenton. He will head to Altoona on Tuesday. Duane Underwood Jr. begins his rehab work on Tuesday with Indianapolis. Both are returning from the COVID-19 IL.

Indianapolis won 6-2, as Bryse Wilson moved to 4-0, 3.16 with two runs over five innings. Cristofer Melendez tossed two scoreless, followed by shutout innings from Aaron Fletcher and Eric Stout. The Indians started their scoring with an RBI ground out from Jamie Ritchie. Yoshi Tsutsugo had a sacrifice fly in the third, followed by an RBI single by Ji-hwan Bae. Mason Martin homered in the seventh. Travis Swaggerty homered in the eighth to drive in a pair, his sixth homer of the year. Bae had three hits in the game, raising him to a .319 average and an .879 OPS. Martin’s homer was his 12th of the season and his first since may 29th. Swaggerty also had a single and walk.

JC Flowers got the start on Sunday and allowed one run over three innings, striking out four batters. That lowered him slightly to a 3.16 ERA for the season in 42.2 inning. Nick Dombkowski allowed two runs in the fourth, one was earned. Jeffrey Passantino gave up two runs in two innings. Brad Case went 1.2 innings with one unearned run. He has an 0.84 ERA in 21.1 innings since May 15th. Tyler Samaniego recorded the final out of the eighth, the retired the side in order in the ninth for the save. Henry Davis had his third consecutive two-hit game, this time with a double and a homer, his second with Altoona and seventh of the season. He also drew a walk. Matt Gorski hit a three-run homer, his sixth with Altoona and 23rd of the year. Aaron Shackelford hit his 12th homer.

Jared Jones had an outstanding outing on Sunday, going seven strong innings with one run on four hits, no walks and nine strikeouts. He threw 90 pitches, with 61 going for strikeouts. He now has a 4.81 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 63.2 innings. Unfortunately for Jones and Greensboro, the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead. Cameron Junker allowed four runs in the eighth. Oliver Mateo tossed a scoreless ninth in the 5-4 loss. Greensboro got homers from Yoyner Fajardo (his fifth), Dariel Lopez (12th) and Eli Wilson (second) but they were all solo shots. Their other run scored on a balk. Wilson also added two singles.

Luis Peralta has been on the development list since his last start on May 24th when he got knocked out of the game in the second inning. He had an incredible 41 strikeouts in 21.2 innings at that point, but it came with a 1.98 WHIP and a 7.89 ERA. He returned strong, going three scoreless on one hit, one walk and five strikeouts. He threw 27 of 37 pitches for strikes. Yoelvis Reyes followed in the fourth and retired all six batters he faced. Wilkin Ramos came on in the sixth and allowed an unearned run. Mitchell Miller gave up one run in two innings, and Dante Mendoza threw a scoreless ninth for his third save, lowering him to a 1.48 ERA. Bradenton won 3-2 and the difference in the game was a fifth inning passed ball that allowed two runs to score. Tsung-Che Cheng then followed with his fourth triple, giving the Marauders three runs in the inning. Cheng’s triple was the only extra-base hit of the game for either side. Tucupita Marcano played his first rehab game and he went 0-for-3 with a walk and run scored.
