Indianapolis’ scheduled starter Trey McGough could be an interesting pitcher to watch. He came out of nowhere to have a strong season as a starter at Altoona last year. He’s getting stretched out now after missing the first few weeks of the season. Henry Davis is making his Double-A debut tonight, batting second and catching.

Indianapolis (15-14) hit two grand slams and routed Charlotte, 15-3. Rodolfo Castro gave the Indians a big lead early with a second-inning slam, his second home run of the year. The game turned into a complete blowout when Indy plated eight in the eighth. That inning included the second slam, which was Jared Oliva’s first home run of the year. Oliva also had a single and double, and drove in five total. Canaan Smith-Njigba and Ji-Hwan Bae had big days. Smith-Njigba had three singles and a double, while Bae had two singles, a double, a walk and four runs scored. Bae and Castro each had steals. Oneil Cruz went hitless but drew three walks. Mason Martin had an RBI double and Hoy Park had two hits. Trey McGough threw four shutout innings on just 44 pitches. Shea Murray allowed the three runs. Cam Vieaux threw two scoreless and hitless innings, and got the win in what was evidently a scorer’s discretionary decision.

Altoona (13-15) edged Somerset, 4-3. In his AA debut, Henry Davis had his own version of a three-true-outcomes day. Naturally, he got hit with a pitch his first time up. Later, he lined a two-run home run well over the bleachers in left. And he drew a walk. Jared Triolo added three hits, as he and Davis each scored twice to account for all the runs. Nick Gonzales and Blake Sabol had tough days, each fanning three times. Luis Ortiz was outstanding for four innings, but in the fifth he walked three. He came within one pitch of lasting five innings, but he issued the third walk on a 3-2 pitch and came out, costing him the win. In four and two-thirds, Ortiz fanned eight and allowed just one hit. Enmanuel Mejia struck out the only batter he faced to strand three of Ortiz’ runners. Duane Underwood, Jr., continued his rehab with a scoreless inning. J.C. Flowers gave up two runs over three innings, but got a save.

Greensboro (12-15) beat Hickory, 6-4.. All the runs scored in the third and the eighth, with the Grasshoppers winning each inning by a run. A struggling Domingo Gonzalez got through two scoreless innings, but gave up three run in a 32-pitch third, then departed. The bullpen was more successful. Wandi Montout threw three scoreless innings. Nick Dombkowski got charged with a tough run. He had a 1-2-3 seventh, with two strikeouts, then hit the first batter in the eighth. Ricky DeVito came in and let the run score on a wild pitch and an infield hit. DeVito ended up getting all three outs on whiffs. Tyler Samaniego got the save with a ten-pitch ninth. Samaniego now has a 0.79 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and .075 opponents’ BA. Jacob Gonzalez more than made up for Henry Davis’ departure, coming up a triple short of a cycle and also drawing a walk. His first High-A home run was a three-run shot and he later drove in a fourth run. Hudson Head added a double and Matt Gorski a triple.
LOW-A: BRADENTON MARAUDERS

Bradenton (15-13) fell behind early and lost to Jupiter, 9-3. Luis Peralta continued to alternate strong outings with terrible ones, and this was the latter. Peralta exited after taking 38 pitches to get through the first inning. He managed to allow only two runs despite three hits and two walks. Jake Sweeney continued struggling, giving up five runs, three earned, over two and two-thirds innings. Brayan Roman and Darvin Garcia each allowed an unearned run, as the Marauders had four errors. Altogether, Bradenton’s pitchers gave up a dozen hits and nine walks. Jupiter went 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position and stranded 14, or it could have been far worse. Mike Jarvis and Sergio Campana each had two hits, and Alexander Mojica and Jase Bowen each had a double. Rodolfo Nolasco was the only Marauder to go hitless.
