According to Jon Heyman, the Pittsburgh Pirates are close to signing 35-year-old veteran center fielder Jarrod Dyson.

Dyson will add speed to the lineup and above average defense in center field. He’s posted a positive dWAR in all ten of his seasons in the majors. The offense (outside of stolen bases) has been mediocre for most of his career. He’s a .247/.319/.338 career hitter in 858 games and he saw a slight slip in all of those numbers last year for the Arizona Diamondbacks, posting a .230/.313/.320 in 130 games. Dyson has 250 career stolen bases in 294 attempts, including going 30-for-34 last year.
We will update when the deal becomes official.
UPDATE: The deal might not be official today, but there’s an agreement in place. It’s still pending a physical. If that happens today, we will post an update. Adam Berry notes that it’s a Major League deal, so there will need to be a 40-man roster move as well. That would likely be Jameson Taillon to the 60-day injured list.
