The Peoria Javelinas took on the Glendale Desert Dogs on Thursday afternoon. They held a 2-1 lead going into the ninth inning, but a four-run top of the inning led to a 5-2 loss. The Javelinas now have a 10-8 record.
Jared Oliva was the only Pittsburgh Pirates player in the lineup. He batted second and played right field. Oliva went 1-for-4 with a double. He now has eight doubles on the season. That leads the league by two this year and would have led the league in each of the three previous seasons as well.
Nick Mears came on in the seventh inning and retired the side in order on 13 pitches, with eight going for strikes. He picked up two strikeouts and a fly out. In five appearances, he has thrown 5.2 shutout innings on one hit, two walks and seven strikeouts.
