Beau Sulser Added to Arizona Fall League Roster

Published:

When the Arizona Fall League rosters were announced three weeks ago, the Pittsburgh Pirates had six players on the list and one open spot on the Peoria Javelinas roster that was designated for one of their pitchers. That spot was filled over the weekend by right-handed pitcher Beau Sulser, who was with the Altoona Curve this season.

Sulser, who was a tenth round pick in 2017, switched between long relief work and starting this year, posting a 2.72 ERA in 96 innings, with 63 strikeouts, a .241 BAA and a 1.24 WHIP. As a reliever, he had a 2.25 ERA in 68 innings, while the number jumped to 3.86 as a starter. The 25-year-old Sulser skipped over Bradenton this season after he had a 2.35 ERA, an 0.82 WHIP and a 63:4 SO/BB ratio in 57.1 innings.

The 30-game AFL season begins on Wednesday night. We will have a full preview for the Pirates in the league early that afternoon.

John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
