A look at how the current top 30 prospects did today. If a player is in the majors for an extended time or loses his prospect eligibility (Clay Holmes, Jacob Stallings, Kevin Newman and Bryan Reynolds), he will be removed from this list. Everyone below him will be shifted up a spot, and a new player will be added to the bottom of the list. If a player is out for the season (Travis MacGregor, Nick Burdi and Stephen Alemais), he will be removed and everyone below him will move up a spot. Removing these guys doesn’t mean they have lost prospect status. It is just an attempt to get more active prospects on the list. Rankings are from our updated 2019 Prospect Guide, and links on each name go to their Pirates Prospects player pages.

Indianapolis beat Lehigh Valley in dramatic fashion, 8-7, in ten innings. Indy scored five in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game. Four straight walks and a wild pitch plated two runs, then Ke’Bryan Hayes’ ninth home run brought in three more to tie it. After Geoff Hartlieb stranded the free runner in the top of the tenth, Christian Kelley ended the game with a walkoff single. The Indians had only five hits in the game, but drew nine walks. They also struck out 14 times. Jake Elmore was the only player with two hits.
James Marvel had a rough start, allowing five runs and seven hits in just three innings. In eight AAA starts, he’s allowed five earned runs twice, but just three total in the other six. Luis Escobar also had a rough outing, giving up two runs on four hits over two innings. J.B. Shuck and Parker Markel each threw two scoreless innings, with Markel fanning five. Altoona got a run on an error in the eighth to edge Bowie, 5-4. The Curve was down, 3-0, going into the sixth, but scored four in the bottom of the inning. The big hit was a two-run double lined into the gap in left-center by Oneil Cruz, his fourth double since being promoted. Cruz also had a couple nice plays in the field, but committed his eighth error in his short time with the Curve by throwing away a routine grounder. Brett Pope and Arden Pabst each had two hits, with Pope getting his 13th double.
Starter Sean Brady fanned seven over six innings, but gave up three runs on five hits and two walks. Elvis Escobar finally made it to Altoona — where he was slated to start the season — after missing most of year with an injury. He gave up a game-tying run in the second of his two innings, but stranded the go-ahead run at third by striking out three straight hitters. Blake Cederlind pitched the ninth for the save.
