Pirates Sign Tyler Glasnow on Over-Slot Deal

Published:

According to Jim Callis of Baseball America, the Pittsburgh Pirates have signed fifth round pick Tyler Glasnow.  Glasnow receives a $600 K over-slot deal, which currently is the highest bonus given out by the Pirates this year, as well as the biggest known deal outside of the top 65 picks in the 2011 draft.  The right handed pitcher had a commitment to the University of Portland.

Glasnow has a projectable frame at 6′ 7″, 200 pounds.  Baseball America did not have him rated among the top 105 prospects in southern California.  He grew rapidly in high school, eight inches after his freshman year.  His velocity also increased rapidly, eventually to the upper 80s to low 90s, reaching as high as 93.  He also throws a slider, curve and change.

The draft pick signing tracker has been updated with the move.
