A few minor league transactions have been made early today, and I expect more to be announced later today:
-Cole White has been promoted from West Virginia to Bradenton. White has been hitting for a .288/.347/.485 line in West Virginia this year. He’s 26 years old, but was still in low-A because he spent two years with the Army, only returning to pro baseball last July.
-Justin Bencsko has been promoted from State College to West Virginia. He put up a .271/.367/.388 line in State College, although he didn’t have the best numbers in July, with a .237 average and a .708 OPS. Bencsko’s best tool, and possibly his only one, is speed. He might be the fastest player in the system. He’s got 30 strikeouts in 85 at-bats this year, which doesn’t speak well for his future chances.
-Junior Sosa has been promoted from the GCL to State College. Sosa is also a speedy outfielder, although he profiles even more as an organizational player than Bencsko. He was hitting for a .238/.319/.238 line in 42 at-bats this year in the GCL. Last year in the GCL he hit for a .296/.379/.338 line in 142 at-bats, with 20 steals in 26 attempts.
-Jeff Clement has ended his rehab assignment with the GCL Pirates, and will be joining the Indianapolis Indians, per Jenifer Langosch.
