2011 Prospect Watching: Heredia, Pevny, Kingham, Weidman

Published:

Nick Kingham —  R/R, 6′ 5″, 210 lb
Another 19 year old pitcher, Kingham was taken by the Pirates in the 4th round of last year’s draft.  Kingham has a 90+ mph fastball, plus a change-up, and a curve which is his weakest pitch.  After signing, Kingham also got a brief pro debut in the GCL.  He appeared in 2 games in late August.  In the first, he pitched 2 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits.  In the second, he pitched one hitless and scoreless inning, with 2 strikeouts.  After extended spring training, Kingham might be able to move right to State College; if not, he’d start in the GCL and move up to State College later in the season.

Bryce Weidman —
Wiedman was last year’s 14th round draft pick for the Pirates.  The 20-year-old signed right away and headed to the GCL for his debut, where he got into 4 games.  The first three were great, with just one run on 3 hits and 2 walks over 6 innings.  He had a tougher time in the last appearance, when he gave up 4 runs on 3 hits and a walk in 2 innings.  Weidman was injured (broken jaw) in an off-field accident, and was shut down for the rest of the season.  He too is back and ready to go for 2011, and could be ready to move up to State College.
