Tough First Inning Sinks Indians

Published:

Corey Hamman came on in relief and finished the 6th inning for Martinez. He went on to pitch both the 7th and 8th innings without allowing a run or a hit, but he did have some trouble with walks. He walked one in the 6th, two in the 7th (back-to-back), and one more in the 8th. He threw a total of 51 pitches in 2.2 innings, and only 26 were strikes.

Anthony Claggett took the mound for the top of the 9th. He gave up a walk to Roof and a single to White, but left them stranded.

The Indians put runners on base again in the 4th and 6th innings, but did not score again until the 9th. Mitch Jones led off the 4th with a single through the hole into left field. He stole base on strike three to Erik Kratz, and when Robinzon Diaz’s sailed into the outfield, Jones advanced to third base. Two strikeouts, by Myrow and Ciriaco, left him standing there. CF Alex Presley led off the 6th by driving a double into right field. He made it to third base, tagging up on a fly out by LF Brandon Moss, but two more strikeouts ended that inning before he could score.

IMG_4207Mitch Jones (photo) had his third hit of the game in the 9th inning. Brandon Moss led off with a double into left field, and Jones followed with a line drive into left for another double, scoring Moss from second base. That was all the Tribe could do — two infield pop outs and a ground out ended the game.

This was the last meeting between the Indians and the Mud Hens for 2010. The Indians win the season series by one game: 11 – 10.

Indians’ Hitting Gems of the Game: Three hits for Mitch Jones, including an RBI double for the Tribe’s second run.

Indians’ Defensive Gem of the Game: The double play in the 4th inning, Friday to Ciriaco to John Bowker (4- 6- 3), which cut short another Mud Hens’ rally and found Joe Martinez a way out of a jam.

NOTES:

Short report tonight, as we’re on the road again. The Indians will also be on the road this weekend, playing two games in Columbus, then back to Indianapolis for the last home stand.

Go Tribe!
