The Tribe added two more insurance runs in the 4th. RF Brandon Moss led off with a walk, and Carlin (photo) blooped a single into left field, moving Moss to second base. After two outs, Jose Tabata slipped a single through the hole into right field to drive in Moss. Neil Walker followed with a liner into center field, and Carlin scored too. Indians 4, PawSox 0.
The Indians put a runner on base with a walk in the 6th, 7th, and 9th innings (Friday, Walker, and Myrow respectively). They threatened again in the 8th inning, loading the bases with singles by 1B Steve Pearce, Moss, and Friday. But a strike out and a grounder force out ended that inning, leaving 3 runners on base.
After Pawtucket scored in the 6th, Daniel McCutchen worked around a walk to keep the PawSox scoreless in the 7th. The newest member of the Indians’ bullpen, Mike Dubee, relieved McCutchen to begin the 8th inning. He walked two batters in his Indians’ debut, but got 1B Aaron Bates to bounce into a 6-4-3 (Friday to Bernier to Pearce) double play to end the inning. Wil Ledezma pitched the 9th inning for the Tribe. He got a strikeout, then walked 3B Jorge Jimenez, but finished the PawSox off with two more strikeouts.
Indians’ Hitting Gem of the Game: Luke Carlin’s triple in the 2nd inning. ”I didn’t know if I had it (a triple) at all, but there was one out, so I decided to go for it,” said Carlin in the post-game interview.
Indians’ Defensive Gem of the Game: The double play by Brian Friday, Doug Bernier, and Steve Pearce in the 8th inning. It ended a small threat, but made sure that Mike Dubee’s AAA debut was a happy one.
The Indians have one more game in Pawtucket, on Friday, then will travel to Lehigh Valley for four more.
