Minor Moves: Kevin Newman Begins Rehab Assignment; Brandon Maurer to Injured List

Published:

The Indianapolis Indians announced four transactions on Tuesday afternoon, including the addition of Kevin Newman, who will begin his rehab assignment tonight. He has been on the injured list since April 11th due to a finger laceration. Newman is scheduled to get some outfield work while in Indianapolis.

Infielder Nick Franklin will also be joining Indianapolis. He has been with Bradenton for the last week, where he went 0-for-16 with eight strikeouts and an .000 OPS. Franklin was out for most of Spring Training with a quad injury.

Brandon Maurer was placed on the 7-day injured list due to right knee inflammation. He has a 4.26 ERA and seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings over six appearances this season. Maurer was dealing with a knee injury for most of Spring Training.

To take the place of Maurer on the roster, Montana DuRapau has returned from his assignment to Extended Spring Training last week. He never actually left the team, as it was just a paper move to open up a roster spot. The 27-year-old DuRapau has thrown 6.1 shutout innings for Indianapolis this season.

If there are any more minor league transactions today, we will add them here.

UPDATE: Oneil Cruz is back for Bradenton and in the lineup tonight. He was out for more than a week with what the Pirates called “lower body discomfort”.
