The International League announced on Monday morning that Indianapolis right-handed pitcher Nick Kingham has been named as the Pitcher of the Week.
Kingham made two starts since the beginning of the season. On Opening Day, he threw five shutout innings over Columbus, allowing one hit, three walks and he struck out ten batters. Kingham went again five days later and gave up one run over six innings, with three hits, no walks and six strikeouts. He held batters to a .114 average and posted an 0.64 WHIP.
As mentioned this morning in The 21, Kingham is the top depth option for the Pittsburgh Pirates if they need a starting pitcher at this point. He has already made 41 starts in Triple-A over four seasons, where he has a 3.80 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. If he continues a strong pace during the early season, we could see him force his way into Pittsburgh, even if it’s as a member of the bullpen at first.
