It’s been slow the last few days in winter ball due to leagues taking a Christmas break. The league in Mexico actually had night games on Christmas day, but that wasn’t enough for an article so we take a look at the last two days, plus a result from Colombia that was posted too late for the last winter article on Sunday.
From late Saturday night in Colombia, Francisco Acuna went 1-for-4 with a single, walk and run scored. The 17-year-old shortstop is now hitting .238/.369/.307 in 33 games. His league had off for three days and Tuesday’s results aren’t posted yet.
On Monday in Mexico, Jerrick Suiter picked up his first RBI in his team’s 2-0 victory. He went 2-for-3 with a double, a single and his first walk. Through four games, he is 4-for-17 with a double. Suiter has been the DH in three of his four games, playing first base in the other.
Carlos Munoz went 0-for-3 with a walk. He is hitting .265/.363/.365 in 61 games.
The only player of note from Tuesday was Anderson Feliz, who is on a new team in the Dominican for the playoffs. He went 1-for-4 with a single and three strikeouts in the playoff opener. He also committed an error, so it wasn’t a great first impression.
Pablo Reyes was in the starting lineup for Escogido, but their game ended up getting rained out. It will be made up January 6th. Oneil Cruz was removed from the active roster of Escogido prior to the game, so his winter action could end up consisting of just one pinch-hit at-bat.
Nik Turley and Richard Rodriguez, two pitchers who will battle with others for a bullpen spot with the Pirates, are on the playoff rosters in the Dominican.
Action will pick up tonight with games resuming in Venezuela and the Australian league gets back to action after taking a weekend off for the All-Star break.
