The Pittsburgh Pirates optioned catcher Jacob Stallings to Indianapolis today. He was recalled yesterday as the 26th man for the game in Williamsport, but did not get into the game.

In other Indianapolis news,  Brandon Cumpton has been promoted from Altoona to Indianapolis. He had a 4.50 ERA in 20 innings over 13 appearances with the Curve. Cumpton also had a 1.65 WHIP and a 9:18 BB/SO ratio. He began the season late, making his debut in Bradenton in early June, where he had a 2.53 ERA in 10.2 innings.

Jake Brentz took Cumpton’s place on the Altoona roster. He has been on the disabled list, last pitching on August 3rd.

John Bormann, who filled in as the backup catcher for Indianapolis with Jacob Stallings gone, was sent back to Bradenton. Bormann didn’t get to catch, but instead, he ended up pitching 2+ innings and taking the loss.

Pitcher Shane Kemp was added to the West Virginia Power roster. He replaced Trae Abet, who was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to August 17th. Kemp had a 3.68 ERA in 22 innings for Morgantown, with 22 strikeouts and a 1.36 WHIP.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
