Minor League Updates: Miller, Moreno, Rinku, Hart, Perez

Published:

Moreno is on the AA disabled list with right shoulder soreness.

Some roster updates in the minor league system:

-Diego Moreno has been placed on the disabled list in Altoona with right shoulder soreness.  The move is as of 6/23.  Moreno had a 4.91 ERA in 11 innings with Altoona, along with a 14:3 K/BB ratio.

-Quinton Miller was placed on the disabled list in Bradenton with an unknown injury on 6/24.

-Rinku Singh was promoted from the GCL to State College today.  Jordan Cooper was moved to the GCL roster to make room Singh pitched four shutout innings for the GCL, allowing one hit and striking out five.

-Kevin Hart paid a visit to Dr. James Andrews, who determined that the best course of action for his rehab work would be to stop pitching activities and shift the focus to rehab and strengthening for about a month.  Hart is currently on the 60-day disabled list.

-The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired minor league catcher Miguel Perez from the Washington Nationals in exchange for a player to be named later, or cash considerations.  Perez was in the organization between 2008 and 2009, splitting time between Altoona and Indianapolis.  In 2008, he had 171 at-bats in Altoona, with a .281/.330/.339 line.  In 2009 he split between AA and AAA, ending up with a .182/.217/.182 line in 22 at-bats at the AAA level.

With Eric Fryer recently called up to the majors, and Dusty Brown designated for assignment, the Pirates need some catching depth at the top two levels.  Their current catchers in Indianapolis are Kris Watts and Wyatt Toregas.
